Default Out With The Ford 9 Inch, In Goes S-60 (Dana) Paired with Gforce 1500hp Level 5 Axles

2010 Camaro Independent Rear Suspension

out with the ford 9 inch and in with the s60 dana
S-60 (Dana) paired with Gforce 1500hp Level 5 axles

dana 9 3/4" ring gear vs ford 9" ring gear

the s60 dana is quieter on the street than the ford 9"

eliminates the infamous driveline slack noise that the 5th gen is plagued with

the dana is 25 pounds lighter

the dana consumes less power due to hypoid offset.

ring gear diameter: dana s60 9.75 vs 9.00 for ford 9

pinion shaft diameter: dana s60 1.625 vs 1.313 for ford 9

Posi options are the Strange S-Trac, Eaton Trutrac and a Detroit Locker

I look forward to running 8's with this mopar rear

Excellent! With the Dana your stepping up to 35 spline inner stubs and with Gforce Level 5 axles your stepping up to 31 spline axle bars and billet cnc cv stars.
The Dana S-60 is only 6 lbs lighter then the Gforce 9" kit though when paired with the Strange H-D Pro Aluminum pumpkin.

I'd be interested in the power difference. On the 4th gen's the S60 murders power. Definitely takes more to drive than a 9".

I'd be interested as well.
We dyno tested a Camaro with a stock rear and then bolted our our 9" kit in. The 9" had steeper gears (3.90) but the 9" was real close to the Camaro rear, within 10hp and since it was done on different days it's hard to nail down an exact difference.

I would love to do so, however along with changing the rear, I'm upgrading the motor with bigger cam, shaft rockers by comp cams, bigger headers
2 1/8 with 4 inch collectors and changing compression.
so I cant get "before and after" the dana numbers.
sorry

The 9-inch has the higher hypoid offset, which will require more power to turn than the Dana 60 rear that employs the smaller offset.

here is a test (of a low powered sb chevy) at the rear wheels:

I suspect that the difference/gain with the dana s60 will be exponentially greater in my car than the above test because I expect to achieve at least 1100 hp at the rear wheels.

I know the math behind it. Just telling my first hand experience. 1 was back/back with the same gears. Other S60 cars seem to dyno lower than 12 bolt or 9" cars from what I see on my dyno.
Does it matter? Not really
