Yeah but stock ls platform was underated. If these #'s are indeed true hp #'s for the v6, you still have drive line loss. Even at the same weight the new platform cant keep up. I say it will be a damn good v6. I bet you see some turbo setup v6 models kicking ***.
I encourage engine technology, and if you ls guys are that worried, then it is time to break out the wrenches. I had to do that with my LT setup.
I think the big question here is if the rated HP #'s coincide with actual HP #'s.

true.. but they will be VERY expensive to make go fast... and it will take a lot more for them to get the same power as an ls1.. but like said, whoever has more dough.. wins..

Yea. You'll be needing forced induction or a pretty big nitrous build to make it serious fast. I'm sure it'll move out quite nicely for its weight/power level, but don't expect to turn it into a 12 second car with a handful of bolt-ons.

the curb weight on a 5th gen is ~3800 lbs. race weight will be ~4000+lbs.
race weight on a 4th gen is around 3800lbs +/-
rated at 6.1... ls1s are rated at 4.7 or 4.9 IIRC..
anyway, who races 0-60.. the real test will be the 1/4 mile.. which it will get DEMOLISHED in..
the 4th gen LS1 F-body is rated around 5.2-5.4 0-60
most have read the mags.. and thats why we know it wont be much of a race.. i could MAYBE JUST MAYBE see a lite-optioned 5th gen manual with a good driver and the best perf. package beat a 98 273d with a bad driver 98 convertible fully optioned.. i could see it getting beat in MAYBE the 1/8.. but its not going to happen in the 1/4.. the 5th gen v6 just wont have enough to keep it going on the top end..
my guess a good comparsion right now would be a stock 3v mustang vs a bolt on LS1.

it'll be close, but not a blowout.

ummmm, i dont think those are the correct rated 0-60 times for our cars... maybe depending on the year.. but an 02 ws6 was rated lower than that i believe, i saw a 4.9 somewhere..
besides, doesnt matter what they are rated at, im sure it will outperform the 370z..
a stock 3v mustang and a bolt on ls1... thats not much of a comparison.. the stang would get walked on pretty hard..

Initial fuel/air bolt-ons (intake/tune) will show the biggest NA gains possible right off the bat. After that, getting gains on motor alone with get harder. Cams probably won't net you enough to talk about unless you're doing a full race high rpm build (and it won't be cheap).....and even then, you're still lacking the torque to get the thing up and moving. Gears will probably help out the best next to the intake/tune, along with some grippy tires. But all in all, I still don't see these things being impressive without nitrous or forced induction. Sorry, JMO.
I'm not knocking the base 5th gen....it's gonna be a solid car for the money. But any bolt-on sixxer 5th gen with delusions of grandeur are gonna find themselves in over their head if they go around looking to mess with every V8 ponycar they come across on the road.
