Default LS1 owners have anything to fear?

This new v6 seems like a terribly monster. 300 horsepower? Really? I'm scared that the v6 will be able to take a stock LS1 off the line...anyone else feel this way?

Those 300 horsies have to move way too much weight for me to be scarred of a it.

not the same amount of torque though but it could be interesting from a roll?

No.

I don't even think that a loaded stock Trans Am convertible automatic with 2.73 gears (essentially the slowest of the 4th gen LS1s) has to worry about the 5th gen V6, even if it has a manual.
Though looking at it's gearing, the V6 will likely still move it out quite nicely I bet.

A stock manual trans 5th gen V6 versus a stock 4th gen automatic from a higher speed roll could be an interesting race indeed.

doesnt have enough TQ to get the pig rolling.. and even when it does.. we are much lighter with more power..

think about the last few times you got beat from a roll by a stock car.. im going to guess not very many, or very pricey cars..

IMO nothing at all to worry about from a dig or a roll..

50 less hp, a lot less tq, and quite a bit heavier. I wouldn't worry about anything.

It's the mustang GT owners that have to worry

More power? Yes

Lighter? Not really

The 5th Gen Camaro V6 has already been tested for 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. I'd have thought more of you would read Motor Trend/C&D/R&T. It won't be faster than a LS1, but it wouldn't go down without a fight

the 5th gen is going to be around 3800 lbs.. some will weigh more depending on options..
a fully optioned 4th gen weighs in at about 3600 lbs.. with the average being around 3450..

that is a LOT lighter..

rated at 6.1... ls1s are rated at 4.7 or 4.9 IIRC..
anyway, who races 0-60.. the real test will be the 1/4 mile.. which it will get DEMOLISHED in..

most have read the mags.. and thats why we know it wont be much of a race.. i could MAYBE JUST MAYBE see a lite-optioned 5th gen manual with a good driver and the best perf. package beat a 98 273d with a bad driver 98 convertible fully optioned.. i could see it getting beat in MAYBE the 1/8.. but its not going to happen in the 1/4.. the 5th gen v6 just wont have enough to keep it going on the top end..

my guess is that the V6s will be a good run/just beat out a 99-04 mustang gt but an ls1? not even close

An important fact.

People seem to forget that the LS1 F-bodies actually made more like 345-350hp at the crank, not the 305-325 (depending on year and trim level) they were rated at. We've all seen some bone stock LS1s dyno over 300rwhp stock.

A 300hp V6 that weighs at least 200lbs more and makes much less torque isn't going to take down a stock LS1 F-body from a dig, high speed roll, or anything inbetween...even if the LS1 is an A4 with 2.73s.

I doubt they have to worry about it as well. GM's 3.6L is a torqueless wonder that looks good on paper.

270rwhp possibly, and at 4000 raceweight. I'm thinking 14.5's?

add a 100 shot and you could give a stock LS1 a good run.

Ha ha, that makes me think the new v6 Camaro may be the American Ricer favorite for a while.

I should start taking bets. "My full exhaust Gen V Camaro will tear your piece of **** LS1 to pieces!"

And to think, I was worried.

hahaha.. i honestly can see it now..

yea man, nothing to worry about.. there is still a few years before a n/a v6 becomes a real big threat..
the V6 car you should be worrying about is the 370Z..

will be a challenge... but still VERY beatable..
