This car will compare and compete very closely with the GT500, so the price should be very close. By the time it comes out, I am guessing an MSRP of $50k. It is not like they are going to sell a stripped down version of this car, you will have to buy it fully loaded. If Ford can sell the GT500 in vette territory, then I think GM can certainly sell an LSA powered Z28 in the same range.

CTS-V is in Vette pricing, and with the same powertrain, the Z28 will be also.

I read somewhere that they are producing another limited run of ZL1s and are taking orders...while I love the nameplate, it's only been used twice before in Camaros history and I think that GM should keep its use extremely limited...IMO

I hope that everyone understands that the Z is an option code and the fact of the matter is that all the SS are a Z code too. Like the Z16, Z12, Z15 all SS models of Chevelle Camaro and Monte Carlo. Z code are just GM parlance for special options or series on a certain model, the Z28 was not advertized and just stood for Special Performance Group on the original Z/28 in 1967. In the first years of the Camaro the Z/28 and the SS were on equal footing in GMs eyes (marketing) the SS Camaro could be ordered with all the same equipment as a Z/28 with the exception of the 302, so in reality the SS350 was the better street performance car off the dealership lot, the Z/28 needed to be gone through before its real performance came out (the headers and crossrams were not standard in the trunk of every Z/28 either). As orders were taken the SS was more geared toward street heavy and drag racer where the Z/28 shined for customers that wanted to cut corners.

BTW there is no such thing as an SS427 Camaro from GM, all of the 427 Camaros were COPOs or COPOs converted at Yenkos, Nickeys, Danas....et al, they carried all the same equipment as an SS except the badging (in some cases they are closer to Z/28 with 427 BB).

There is no way in hell the 2012 Camaro Z28 will be under 40k.....it will be in the same price range as the GT500. If GM pulls the LSA and just does a tuned suspension and retuned LS3 then we may see a Z28 right under 40k but the LSA will push the price right into the mid 40's.

when i heard the Camaro was coming back i was excited, but i heard there was no Z28 model and i was sad.
hearing about an ultra high performance Z28 package with over 500hp and torque.
im buying one after college

There was some rumblings of the Z28 only coming with a manual trans.
Anyone hear that? I hope that's not the case. I'd like a Z28 with an auto trans.

isnt that the way it was originally, the rs was the base model then the ss was a step up,and the z was the top dog? im talking about in the late 60's when the car first came out.

The SS was the big dog regular production Camaro in 1967-69 when ordered with the solid lifter 396/375 HP combination. The Z-28 was built to get the Camaro into Trans Am racing (minimum 500 cars had to be built). It was also a good dragstrip performer, but not even close to the 375 HP cars.

Who cares what GM calls the new car. Let's just hope that they build it!
