kain01, you replied to a question about 2002 ZL1 GMMG cars. Not a question about John Moss's 94 ZL1 with a monster aluminum big block which was a one off and featured in Car and Driver against a big block Mustang Cobra which couldn't hold the motor together. I still have that issue Also if you remember the article, John Moss would not disclose the actual displacement of the "572" block in the Camaro, but stated that is was larger than advertised!

Thanks for the pics, and I am not trying to start anything here. But let's keep our years and facts straight when replying to specific posts.

Back on topic....looking forward to the new Z and what performance numbers it can put up.
I'm not trying to start anything either, but if you say ZL1 my mind automatically goes to this car, as it is the only true ZL1 that has been built since the first gen Camaro's (in my mind). Sorry I just don't count the GMMG's, dunno why, they are fabulous car's and they are basically the same as the originals, but something doesn't feel right to me with them. Maybe that I'll never have one.

Yeah I'd love to see the LSA engine in a Camaro and see what kind of numbers it can put down.

I read an article by Joe Oldham where in '72 he had a new 72 Trans Am 455 test car "dyno tuned" by Nunzi, the car picked up some thing like 6MPH with carb, spark and free mod tuning, car trapped 104MPH when they were done with it. They had some pretty stout runners back then, but yeah we are definitely now at the forefront of automotive performance.

Fair enough

I like that there are 69 of the GMMG 02 ZL1s like the 1969 COPO ZL1s. But you are right, GM made the 1969 ZL1s, and technically not the 2002s. I still want one, either 69 or 2002!!! An 02 Dick Harrell is my dream 4th Gen...if only

You can get a SS version in a few of the models but there is only 1 Z28 model. Time to start buying lotto tickets.

If only it had forged pistons like the Shelby. Those of you looking to up the boost with more gressive tunes might plan for a set of pistons as well.

Maybe I'm wrong but there are plenty of people who have been pushing the CTS-v well past 700rwhp on the stock bottom end

how much heavier are those forged pistons compared to the hyperetics ls9s get. im not into heavy cheapo forged pistons because it makes your rod bolts hold on for dear life.lol

back in '05 i built a 600rwhp DOHC Forged 5.4L with a custom intake and a terminator setup. bought new pistons, forget the manufacturer, same that ended up being oem on the GT500. but i remember them being pretty heavy.

I read through this whole thing hoping to learn something about the new Z28, every page reads the same though. Argument over whether the SS or Z28 should be top dog. Any ways any updates on this? If this comes out I will definitely be making a Z28 my first new car purchase. If not I guess used CTS-V it is.

^ Theres talks of a cts-v coupe.

Thats an option too if theres no z28.

Then again, the z28 'd probably will inherit the same drive train as the V coupe.

Exactly why I'm picking up a used CTS-V if the Z28 doesn't happen.

Nunzi was considered a Pontiac guru back then. That was a 455 SD where he rejetted the carb, recurved the distributor and I thought added some headers as well. They said it was a night and day difference where they could drive from a stop in second gear. The 455 SD TA is still my favorite car.

The CTS-V couple is confirmed and should be out next Summer.

They left the manifolds on it, they capped off some smog crap on the intake. Things would have been a lot different if those cars had modern tires. Imagine Mickey Drag radials at the track instead of PolyGlass on one of those cars.

the Z28 moniker was THE original performance designation in the 60's. the SS was the base performance model. you didnt get a DZ302 in an SS

Well all I can say is they better bring the heat because the 2011 Mustang with the 412hp 5.0 and 2-300 less pounds is going to be faster than the SS.
