You are right. It is all in his mind because he read it online.

If you can rationalize someone else's thinking, then it becomes your own.

I tried a 160 ts and my car ran rich. I tried the cut off the front of the ts to have free flowing. After going back to the stock ts my car ran better and cooler.

If there is anything burning inside the crank case you got a big problem somewhere. And how exactly would a thermostat cause a rich condition?

A) he prob did not get it tuned correctly B) when efi engines run cooler, there are fuel and air tables that will add extra fuel if not properly tuned.

You cannot hope to put in a 160 and run it untuned.

You can prob run it for a bit. But you may see more fuel consumption. Thats about it. With that cooler t stat, you can usually take better advantage of the stock timing table and even a modified timing table by whomever is going to tune it.

I can see that at initial start up. But I would think once it was warm the info from the O2 sensors would cause it to lean back out.

Well I think you are putting a tad too much faith in the fuel trims. Long term fuel trims can adapt the fueling to be either overly rich or overly lean, and be stuck that way.

Most of the stock cars I have seen are +4 - +6 in the fuel trim area. Some of the older trucks have been worse, but they were on farms and used like trucks were intended to be used.

If you are going to put one in, put the 160 and be done with it.

Either works better than stock. Most people that start modding a car never really stop though, so the 160 may be a better fit. Plus if you got the 180 chances are you will always wonder and wish about the 160 or get a bunch of flak for it. Honestly we all care about what others think, so may as well go for it right?

I have the 160° thermostat in my Camaro. The stock thermostat is rated at 186°. On my engine I have the Fluidampr 25% underdrive pulley and the Flex-a-lite radiator. It consistanly runs 183-187°.
