Only reason to get a lower thermo is for heads cam intake and only a 180 160 is to low. For my 650 429 ls3 i have lower fan temps, bigger radiator, and a 180 thermo and it stays at 190 ish no lower no higher runs great.

Just got off of the phone with my installer.

They insisted on a 160 T-Stat for a H/C car. I told them I wanted stock and they insisted.

The opinion varys I suppose. For a bolt on or stock car I wouldnt bother.

They didnt say which brand.

I dont think it matters much.

Just make sure you get the right part number to fit the ls3 motor and temp that you want.

Mine was running anywhere from 187-193 on the way home today with the 160 T-Stat. Must not have lowered the fan temp much more. I am happy where it is at for temp.

this is what some people that say cooler tstats are no good dont understand. its still going to run warmer than what its rated at. also sitting for long periods will raise operating temp. and this is another benefit of a cooler tstat.

I find this interesting. So, excuse my ignorance on the details pertaining about the LS3, how much different is internally the LS3 when compared to the LS1? The Ls1 benefits from a lower T-stat.

I'd rather run a car at 180F then 200F.

Had the 160 stat again about all things the dribbler SBC in my '51 Mercury. I put one in there, and a friend swore up and down it would run too cold. Coldest I ever saw was 175 when it was 27F out and I was going 70mph on the highway.

I'd personally have the fans on sooner and have the car running 180F ish... With the LS1's they were getting well over 200F, I think we used to see 210F.

Even with turning the fans on sooner, the t stat is still going to regulate the heat higher. Esp if you like hearing the fans come on full blast when the stock operating temp hits 190 because keeping an engine cooler helps. If it didnt, NONE of the tuners would turn the fans on earlier.

Most people that say keep the stock stat but turn the fans on sooner just contradict themselves.

Too many people believe that the spaghetti tells them.....

What are their ideas on running an oil cooler? You realize that its not just to keep the oil at a certain temp right? Oil also pulls heat from the engine. By this fact alone, all Camaro5 guys with V8s need to remove those as they will not allow the pistons to heat up to their so called desired temp either!!!!!!

C5 breeds a huge amount of ignorance.

The ls motor requires a temp of about 210 to burn off all the vapors that get in the crankcase. Look at your temp gauge and notice that straight up is 210.
I tried a 160 ts and my car ran rich. I tried the cut off the front of the ts to have free flowing. After going back to the stock ts my car ran better and cooler.

Have you heard of 180 t-stat? You need to inform yourself a bit more.

With just that one moronic thing you did, you just validated your place in the modding world.
