the money you pay for that vette is due to engineering. the fact that it weighs so little, has a steroid version of the lsa.....and still has all the basic luxeries youd expect......is why. id never pay that for a zl1 only to be smoked by the first guy with a 5.0 and a 175 shot. lol.

Just because the shelby did a quicker lap time does not make it a better handler. Look at the info, the shelby makes up time on the straights and the camaro catches it in the turns.....that's handling bud. Take a look at figure 8 times where power is not a issue like it is on that long uphill at L.S. The camaro beats by .4

Quoted : Personally, on our canyon run, I didn't like how much the rear of the car moved around. Chassis flex? Because after all, there's a $22,000 rental car under all that blistered snakeskin. Maybe. Or maybe it's the way the live-axle moves around.

I have said this before and you guys tried to castrate me.

Remember a great handling car has more than 1 fast lap in it. I would like them to do 5 laps, then take the middle 3. That would be far more accurate.

Thanks for posting a article where the ZL finished 6th and the GT500 finished 7th....you did a great job proving your point.
They didn't do it strictly based on numbers, hence why the ZL1 beat the GT500. It's their opinion. However, the Ford was the fastest around the track. I was just trying to make the point that saying the ZL1 completely dominates in the turns is not true. It may handle a bit better, but most people on the street won't be able to handle either car to their limits. Anyone can enjoy the extra acceleration from the GT500.

I don't understand the ZL1 or the GT500 though. I'm pretty sure a lightly modified Corvette (or maybe even stock) would walk all over them in many situations, and you'd save enough money to buy a truly practical car as well. Plus, you wouldn't have to deal with the fact that you're driving a car that cost you $60,000+ and is based on one that costs ~$23,000.

The zl does completely dominate it turns....that's why it stays as close as it does on a roadcoarse. It gets it's *** kicked on the straights. Like I said, look at the figure 8 times. Look at how much more busy the driver is in alot of these vids.

Personally I say buy an SS slap in a good blower cam, headers and a Whipple and save $10K.

There will never be any point to arguing about modifications and power per dollar. If that's the only thing anyone considered, we'd all be driving <$1000 cars off craigslist for with a turbo'd junkyard LQ motor, right? lol

I'd personally buy the ZL1 because it'd be more comfortable and handles better, it's slightly cheaper, and it would make a better street car IMO.

The GT500 is impressive, no doubt, but my experience in GT500's is that you make "suggestions" to the car, not control it.

But back to OP's question, there is a ZL1 in my home town with a price tag of $58,xxx in the front window.

Everyone always says just buy a vette.....I personally can't stand vettes because I see more of them than chevy cavaliers on the road.

The ZL1 looks great in person with the black rims, I was suprised I liked it so much. I would still wait a couple years until the 6th gen comes out and see what it has to offer. If it's not anything special you can always buy a used 5th gen.

The only 5th gen Camaro worth buying over the 2013 Shelby and paying sticker / MSRP would be the 2013 Convertible ZL1!

I own a vette.. I like the ZL1 because it runs like one but i can put my kids in it.. and ss's are turds.. every absolute way the zl1 is bad, the ss is 10 times worse..fully loaded zl1, 61,000. fully loaded gt500, 66,000.. I like the lsa.. it responds to mods so well and is simple.. FXXK a mod motor and all the crap involved...
