4l80e swap on my L99
My question is will the 80e slow me down N/A with the L99...
I know most swap them when running forced induction or big cubes...
I plan on doing a turbo set up in the future but for now I want to see how far it will go N/A...
The 6L is just too laggy and doesn't have snappy responsive shifts ...
My set up consists of
L99
Cam
Full bolt ons
Fast102
2" headers
TFS 255 heads
Yank 3200
Car is currently getting 3:91s and a circle d 5c stall (4400)
Here's a comparison of 2 time slips
Left is before the 2" headers/fast102 and TFS heads
Right slip is after mods
So what do u guys think ? It get slower after the 80? Or will the stall and gears make that up...
I need to get this pig in the 10s like I had my truck lol

Some are cutting 1.6's ans 1.5's with a converter and gears with the 6L80 combo.
Ryan at GPI ran a best of 10.75 on N/A.
But I don't know anybody with a N/A 4L80 setup right now.Can't help you there.Sorry.

I do no think the 4L80 is going to get you into the 10s anymore than a 6L80 would at this point. Based on your comments, it appears to be more of a tuning issue than anything mechanically.
As Motion mentioned, your 60' times need to improve. What tires and suspension modifications have you done? How are you launching? Most of these cars like to roll out around 1000-1200 RPM.
If you decide to put the 3.91 gear in it, you will spin like crazy. The 6L80 has a very low first gear ratio as it is. I have a 3.70 gear and even regret going that high some days. If you do have plans to go FI, the 3.91 gear will only get worse.
I would focus on the trans tune and getting that 60' down before I started trying to make it up with other modifications.

First slip was on weld rts skinnys and mh drags
Right slip on 18" forgestar mh drags
Only suspension mod are 1.4 drop and pfadt trailing arms
I launch off idle
I agree the 80 swap will not get me in the 10s alone I may just have to spray it lol
6spd is coming out though for sure

I think its a bad move....lol. I talked to you on the phone about this. You are making your first gear basically what your 2nd gear is with the 6l80, adding a hi ram manifold, which is going to kill tq. I think at your power level, na, it would be lucky to run a 1.7 60 ft with the high ram and the 4l80.
I understand you said you are going FI in the future. But I think short term, with your setup, its going to kill it.

Throw some horsepower at the current tranny! Get a d1sc on there to make that big intake work. But heck, the gear and converter change are gonna make it 60' as is. I would wait on the high ram if you haven't got it on. And if u have u can sell me the fast 102 because I like used vs new ... New it just isn't a good bang for the buck. Used though, I would take a fast 102.

I agree with what most of the others have said and would stick with the 6L at this point. Didn't Ryan tune your car? I'm surprised you feel that the 6L isn't giving you the upshift that you want.

yeah...that thing should freaking leave even only stalling at 4k if your tune is right. I think the general consensus here if you haven't read between the lines is that the hi-ram is overkill and maybe detrimental on your current set up. Hang on to it for later with FI.
