Default 2010 Mustang reveal. 400 + 500 hp

Watching the 2010 Mustang reveal on Speed channel just now and ford said you can customize the mustang with power packs including superchargers boosting hp to 400 or up to 500. And other misc stuff but the 400 and 500 hp are the most important imo . I wonder how Chevy will respond ?

With the 2010 Mustang GT you get a wopping 315 RWHP. You will need the Rousch package and still be a couple of car lengths behind what GM is or has been building.

The LS3 Camaro will be able to handle either of those two "power pack" options while remaining the cheaper of the two. Gotta remember Chevy underrates their Camaro's and Ford overrates their Mustangs.

Wasn't there some new regulations that make the HP ratings legit ? I thought I heard something about that, wasn't there a certain year mudstain that they severely overated and customers had to bring their car back to the dealer for an engine upgrade to make closer to advertised power ? I assumed that caused the ratings to be more strict unless I'm mistaken ? And if that is the case can they (Ford and Chevy) still be under and over rated ?

That would be the mid/late 90's Cobras If you look at the rated hp vs. rwhp, the camaro is always closer/higher to the rated number. For example 99' camaro rated 305 hp, dyno'd 320hp, 99' mustang cobra rated at 305hp and dyno'd 265hp

To underrate the Camaro's they use more restrictive exhaust, different tune. But it has always been the same basic engine.

Thumbs up

Say what you will about the car itself but that TV Show (infomercial? ) was one of the best of it's kind EVER! I enjoyed all of the old school racecar references and of course Shelby himself was there.

Mine dyno'd 318/325 bone stock, most i have seen have at least dyno'd 305. Still a fairly decent gap thats enough to prove my point.

That was a good intro! I hope you see an intro like that when the 2010 Camaro comes out. I liked the drifting in a small space. It was nice driving!

To make a few corrections: The '99 Cobra was the model year with the horsepower issue which was recalled and some owner's actually ended up with a little more power . The intakes had manufacturing flash that caused reduced flow and the exhaust "mufflers" wasn't the original planned design. From my understanding bean counters handcuffed SVT to a certain extent. The actual rating was 320 h.p. the '96-'98 Cobra's are rated @305 h.p. I have an issue of Hot Rod magazine that dynoed several cars rated @ 300 h.p-400+h.p. and the F-bodies actually made more power than the Corvette. Back to the topic :The show was pretty cool i wonder what is going to be revealed in Jan '09 as was mentioned on the show ???

Underrating HP is a thing of the past. The LS3, while an outstanding engine, is not underrated.

RWHP? Nope, more like 315 at the crankshaft/flywheel. More like 265 RWHP I'd say....

2010 Mustang V8: 85-107hp less than 2010 Camaro V8.

Rumor going around that the new GT weighs 150 lbs less. And the new Camaro weighs in at 3600. The new GT may weigh 3,250 since the current GT weighs 3400. Have fun with your fat ***. On top of that Ford still has GT500's and every other name of a Mustang to play the 550 hp game.

http://www.fordvehicles.com/the2010mustang/

Also note Ford is doing financial better then GM. GM's opel division begged for money in Germany and got it. Ford isn't begging it's foreign countries. Ford is the only one of the three US brands that has more Equity then Debt. So sit on that.

The New GT will come in around 25 to 26k, while the Camaro will hit around 30k. Looks like its another decade of Stang outselling the Camaro.

I also heard GM has pushed the Camaro back to 2011. Sad. So you might as well scratch that on order in your sig to 2011.

False information. The CONVERTIBLE is pushed back to 2011.
