I don't think anybody who drove the car on Sunday even turned the radio on at all!

i like the first gen gauge setup. but with the moulding and silver bezels it makes them look intrusive and ruins the flow of the dash. you've got clean lines all the way to the gauges then *BAM* IM IN YOUR FACE IM HERE

I'm SO glad I didn't order that color after seeing it in photos. Orange is one of my favorite colors, but that Campbell's Tomato Soup color just doesn't have the same appeal as hugger orange to me. Looking forward to my cyber gray SS!

Great review! The g8 gxp's are trapping around 110 in mag tests. I'm guessing the smoothness of it makes it feel slower than it really is. My friend's modded 96 cobra felt down right brutal compared to my ls1 trans am, but when we lined up side by side I just walked away from him with ease.

The butt dyno on a car like the new Camaro won't be very accurate. These newer cars are alot more solid, and don't convey the sense of speed as well as older cars. I had problems keeping my right foot regulated in my 05 GT for a while after getting it....because 70mph felt like 50. I'd imagine with the more rigid chassis, heavier curb weight, and carefully tuned suspension of the 5th gen SS this aspect will be even more in effect. I'd venture to guess that the car will be faster than an LS1 F-body. But how much faster, I'd dare not guess right now. But I'd bet anything that it won't "feel" faster than an LS1 F-body.

The real question is...

Was that because of the better build quality, engine power linearity or simply because of ETC setup in newer vehicles?

More rigid cars with better suspension components simply do not feel like they are that fast. Also, I'm betting the sound insulation within the cabin is much improved over the 4th gen. Also, that fancy engine cover is also intended to reduce engine noise coming into the cabin. You end up with a more quiet vehicle inside, one that rides smoother and feels stiffer than the old gen. Think about it, the 4th gen came out in 1993, and was probably developed in the mid 1980s. It is basically a 20 year old platform with too many compromises, compared to newer vehicles.

This car should have no problem running 12s stock with that LS3 under the hood. Depends on the driver and traction, those 109-110 trap speeds from the heavier GXP would translate to easy 12s if you don't drive like a limp-wristed wussbag.

I thought I'd share a few thoughts about the new car.

I've loved Camaros, and I've owned three so far (I know that is not a lot compared to a lot of folks on this board) so I wouldn't consider myself to be a troll for other brands.

My opinion:

Pros:

LS3 engine
Better handling out of the box than a stock f-body (based on my test drive of a G8 GT and a G8 GXP)

Cons:

Ugly on the inside and outside
3800-3900 curb weight
IRS
No good autocross rubber at this time

I can't help but keep comparing it my current car, which is pretty much a weekend cruiser / autocross car. For what I want to do with it, I don't see a need to 'upgrade' to a fifth gen. Nine Ball was kind enough to sell me a 6.2L engine which is going into my fourth gen, which really is the only advantage a fifth gen has IMO.

At any rate, the new car looks like a really nice DD / cruiser, but for what I want to do with it, It doesn't fit my needs.

i think the new camaro looks awesome i love th retro look the interior appears a little bland but comes off very clean and has a nice simplicity factor to it . its not like the camaro has ever had a luxorious interior and i think this is the best one yet. 3800 curb weight seems like alot to me was hopeing theyd be around 3400 since they look a little more compact than the 4th gen but thats probably just styling. i knwo that if i can afford one when im lookin for a new car this will definetly be a top choice but i heard they might be comin out with an 4ls7 edition i might be wrong especialy with the way gm is lookin right now a 427 might be outta the question. but would be rly sweet

Hugger and the Brazen Orange painted on the LS2 GTOs would have been ideal.
