The 425hp is going to be pretty right on, not underrated like 4th gens. So you've got a car with about 75 more hp at the crank, weighing 400lbs more, running big giant dubs.
Stock for stock, it's faster than a 4th gen, but guys expecting a night and day difference in a bone stock car are going to be disappointed.

^^ Agree. You have a car that makes roughly 75 more BHP while weighing 400 lbs more. Same car also rolls on dubs and puts its power down through an IRS.
I checked out a Bumblee version at my local dealer (Lee Chevrolet, Washington NC) and I liked it, though it sounds kinda crappy for stock. It was a 2SS A6. Excluding the exhaust it was a pretty impressive car in person.

I really get sick of hearing how LS1 forth gens run 12s like it's normal. Most are mid 13 second cars stock. I've seen many run 14s. 12 second passes in stock form is over-hyped and rare.
The 2010 Camaro is just a better car all around, regardless of 1/4 mile times.

I am not very good at posting links or attachments so Hopefully you can see this. This is one of the clips I have from way back when. I belive this is from Mustangs & Super Fast Fords and they got a stock SS to run 12.96 on stock tires on a hot day with a full tank of gas.
Obviously we all know LS1's are fast cars, and I do like the new Camaro. (I even got to see and play with one in a dealershowroom over my lunch hour) It just seems odd that if I did go out and dump 30k on one I still would not have a faster car.
Does 400lbs really have that much of an impact?

Just so everyone knows, MT was only capable of pulling a 13.49 out of the 2002 Camaro SS. So if those cars were capable of a 12.92 on a hot day with a full tank, then the new Camaro should easily pull a 12.45 on a hot day with a full tank of gas all things being equal. The magazine guys drive like grannies, they aren't rowing gears in these things like one of us would.

Oh ye of little faith. I've been right for about ten years using this logic. The Mustangs & Fast Ford's or GM HIgh Tech Performance's have been pretty consistent at dropping half a sec off of any times MT or C&D can get.

Thanks for all of the thoughts everyone, I especially appreciated the facts on mass vs. horsepower.
Here is my final thought on the matter, this quote is from a book on Camaro’s I have laying around.
“The fourth generation would be the greatest, and last, generation for the Camaro. These Camaros are, without a doubt, the fastest, most powerful Camaros ever built. But declining sales could not save them from cancellation after the 2002 model year.”
What really peaks my curiosity and why I started this thread is I wonder how the future will look back on the new Camaro. Stock for stock was the 4th generation a peak where future cars are too weighed down by safety and economy concerns just like muscle cars of the mid seventies were held back by new restrictions. At a certain point fuel economy and heavy safety equipment will hold back nearly any horsepower rating.
Now I just need to convince the wife that we need the new Camaro instead of the new Challenger. (at least she isn’t pushing for a minivan)

Don't even know where to start........do you guy's not understand the reason that the manufacturior limits the performance of the cars is so that they willstill make money off people getting it serviced......they dont make them bigger...faster.....stronger for a reason they know us car guys are gonna push them past there warrantied limits and then try and get us to pay for the repairs from our own pockets ! ! ! Chevy could have mass producedthis car to run 12.5's if it wanted to but they would be loosin money to do that ! ! !
