Had a GOOD LOOK at the new 2009 Z?Camaro
Went to the Auto show in Cleveland on friday 2-24-06.
Car has some awesome looks. IN and OUT! Concept model had massive room for Spark plug changes, headers and plenty of room for any other mods. Had a LS2 motor(that wont really be in it, Vette motor more likely). People commenting nearby said the car wont be announced with a production date.
Other things I heard, made me think that Chevy is holding back because of Fords new 485hp GT500 Mustang that is coming. Just to validate that more HP will produce more sales
Another spokesperson said that if the public goes on the Chevy website, and demands the car to be built, that they are going to react to the response, with a possible production date. Its the old supply and demand game folks.
I saw this car for its true worth. What IS coming in my opinion, is that the new Z version will have its brothers in the lineup too. An SS version is a given, and a base model, with convertible options. The new car will have the NEW Z06 motor, with 508 hp that is in the new 06 vette, or more.
This car is a real looker. After Looking at the NEW Camaro for about 15 minutes, I walked directly back to the new Mustang, and sorry to say my Mustang lovers, the Camaro made the Stang look very plain and nowhere near as impactful as it was when it was re- released with the "old Style" tradition.
This NEW Camaro even made the Vette look second-grade in appearance. What's most powerful about its looks, is that the back of the car looks as good or better than the front. Something that isnt so, on the Vette.
It is so well designed that the ONLY thing I would change is to soften the angle of the grill in front to a little less of a point. Many people with us said they agreed. The 69 was much less pointed and looks better.
Youve got to see one live. The TV and internet videos dont do it ANY justice.
Gettin ready to sell the 04 GTO and buy this real muscle car when its available.

If it has the vette motor and more horsepower then the new vette, what would the price tag be? I would say over 50k for the base model. Why would someone pay 75+ grand for a z06 when the camaro has more hp, even if the vette is lighter when they can pay 50-60 to own a new camaro. No way would chevy make it more powerful then the new vette. IMO.

By the time that Camaro comes out, the Vette of that year WILL be much more powerful...
I'm hoping for it to come out, not holding my breath though because I own a fourth gen which is pretty sweet in its own respect...

The Vette will definitley be the most powerful car on the GM Lineup. I can see the Z and SS models coming close to the base Vettes bhp, just like before. But they will also up the Vettes power by the time the new Camaro comes out. And just imagine if they Supercharger the Z06 from the factory. I can see the Camaro coming out with 425HP and the Vette being bumped to 450, the Vette will still be considerably faster due to weight and advanced technology, so Vette owners will stay pay the money for one, although it isn't much much more powerful than the Camaro.
I plan on ordering a brand new Z28 or SS model, once the beast is finally realized. I've been waiting for the day since 2002. And like many others, am willing to do whatever to own one.

Look back at 1969 guys. The Camaro had a 427ci, 425Hp motor. The Vette in that year was NEVER a quartermile competitor. 302 Z 28's, all blew Vettes away at the strip too.
What Corvette really stands for is a SPORTS CAR with handling. What "Muscle car" stands for is CAMARO!

The only 1969 Camaros that had a 425hp 427 were the ZL1s of which only 69 were built. Under-rated, they actually made around 500hp.
However the 1969 Corvette ZL1 was rated 430hp, and was way faster.
One was dynoed, and it stock form made 553hp.
It is documented that a 1969 Corvette ZL1 ran 10s in stock form.
Anyway, some top-level Camaros surpassed base-model Corvettes in horsepower, but the top-level Corvette has always been king of the hill, and always will be.

there is a scan at digital corvette forum, that shows the ls7 will be dead by the year 2008, and a new ls8 and ls9 (suprcharged ls7 or doch motor) will be released. i have heard rumors from the cts-v forums that a leak of a new motor, an ls3 motor will be released with the standard c7 and camaro (just like the ls1) that will be in the power range of 450-475bhp and will have displacement larger than the ls2 but smaller thant the ls7...stock iron 408 anyone

I cant wait.Camaro fund started as of three weeks ago.I really hope that they dont drop the ball on this one and not come through.
I personally would like to see them not produce a V6.

From what I here the Camaro will have a base V6, a mid level V-8 (most likely the new LS-3, but there is a chance the 5.3L V-8 makes the lineup). GM has also hinted a lot that there a limitied production supercharged V-8 (LS-8, sharing the engine with the Z06) that will go into Camaro to comete with the GT500. Then to keep the vette on top we'll see the new "blue devil" with an intercooled/supercharged V-8 (LS-9).
So everyone should be happy. A Camaro to beat the GT500 and Vette still stands as king of the hill.
