Default will there be an AWD camaro???

so i just got my new issue of motor trend, and on page 12 they have an article titled "GM's rear-drive revolution". in the article, it says that "the good news for GM is its Australian subsitiary Holden ensured zata is already engineered for all-wheel drive. so my question is do you think that GM will ever make the camaro AWD? if not, then why not? i relize that an entirely new transmission would be needed, and new hardware would have to be borrowed from other vehicles, but if the zeta platform is designed to handle AWD, then whats stopping the camaro from being offered in AWD?

Consider the vehicle. That's enough right there. The Camaro will not be AWD (not even a lower v-6 model).

I'm 99% sure they wouldn't make an awd camaro, but it would be a freakin blast to have an awd v8. I would be all for that, just not in a camaro.

Something that would be compete with the Audi S4 performance but a much lower sticker price...

Why do you want a slower car with less fuel milage? Sometimes less is more.

^ever driven an AWD car like a WRX? They are fun as HELL to drive. It would make a pretty badass little road racing car.

Yes. Would you like pictures? I just changed the spark plugs in a WRX the other night infact. It is a 2002 Blue WRX. Stock for stock they are slow compared to Camaros. The WRX is nice but it still has a lot of econobox feel to it in many aspects like the cheezy 1/2 inch radiator, smaller wheels, modular dash, ect...The automatic shifts to where you can't feel it and they even went to the trouble of adding damper to the AC so you can't feel when the AC clutch engages! The Japanese view of a sports car is upsetting but probably the future of all cars soon.

Believe me, you will hardly ever come into conditions where you need AWD from a sports car standpoint. Maybe that is useful in the north for the winter but then again I wouldn't buy a +$28K Subaru just to have it rust.

I live in ny we get alot of snow sometimes. But that is the reason for my fwd beater, I only drive my ss on really nice days any other day it stays home where it belongs. I must admit that awd would be cool because it is nice dumping a clutch at 6k and dead hooking. But a camaro will always be a muscle car, muscle car= rwd. There will never be an awd camaro..............now maybe monte carlo or impala would be nice awd

Although I agree with you, take it from a WRX owner, you can only launch at 6000 RPMs so many times before things start to go BOOM!

How hard is it to get parts for those things? The nearest dealers are 1 and 2 hours away and I have never looked for aftermarket

you can get any replacement part off the internet these days. and tuner companies like the subies cause of their rally back ground and obvious potential, so upgrades and replacement parts are there if you know where to look. while they are slower than a f-body(stock), i wouldnt mind having one for winters. 6,000 rpm launchs will break expensive things fast. not many f-body guys dump the clutch with slicks and have their 10 bolt hold up. subies werent built for drag racing. not to mention, the price of that camaro will ski rocket going awd. chevy needs to make a cheep, light, powerful car that is responsive to mods(since we dont leave our cars stock anyways), REAR WHEEL DRIVE, and make it soon. f-bodys were never the fastest, most agile, or nicest looking cars on the road, but thats why we have a vast after market and oppertunities to change all that.

If they build it, we will come...

Would you say the motors in those cars are maxed out or are they able to hold more power? I noticed the engine was protective as it limits boost when the MIL is on. I like to drive the car around but wouldn't use it for racing.

The automatic shifts
^that's your problem right there. The m5's and autos are completely different. Take a subie around some curves from 60-100 in a manual. That is fun!

The regular WRX motor can take about 300hp on the stock shortblock. The STI can make quite a bit more.

An AWD car like a wrx is NO WHERE near as fast as a stock ls1, but then again the two cars were made for extremely different purposes.

Drag racing is to Camaro
as
Rally racing is to WRX.

I still think an AWD v8 would be a load of fun.

I have an eclipse GSX.....nothing like the INSTANT launch.

Theres an adapter to put a 350 into a mitsubishi mighty max utilizing the stock transmission in the mighty max. You can drop a 4G63 turbo eclipse engine into this truck with NO mods to block or tranny. If you can bolt that together, you can get the adapter to bolt a 350 into an eclipse gst or gsx.

Can you say sideways weiand 873 with a bad *** 350 on an awd import? Talk about SICK....(my thoughts for the LONGEST)
