Default Hybrid Maro?

USA Today...yesterday had an interesting article about a hybrid Tahoe...which got me to thinking about a Hybrid camaro. 6.2 with dod and hybrid technology (perhaps CVT as well) would be quite splendid to improve the camaro's appeal to the masses. What do you think. Good idea or bad idea? I think a hybrid V8 would be the way to go seeing as a V8 of 6.2 litres would not need to be turning very high to run 80, thus saving gas. The Electric motors get you up to speed (30 or so, unless you nail it) so it would be interesting to see what this would do.

P.S. Now for solar cells for the hood, trunk, and roof...lots of extra energy to be had there.

I think hybrid technology is still to new for us to actually get our money's worth out of it, that and a hybrid v8 would probably have negligable mpg gains. Honestly Im willing to bet that the LS3 is going to have AFM on the new camaro. that IMO is probably the best way to go.

I was not talking about for our cars. I was talking about having one in the line. Not for us. But for mass market.

GM is already putting the Active fuel management on the Camaro, which shuts off 4 cylinders at cruising speed, in hopes of getting 30 MPG.

What is it called on the Vette "CAGS" that you have to shift from first directly to 4th gear, and it saves gas somehow, lets the 400 HP engine get 28 MPG. Thats possible for the Camaro, though I know a lot people here would get the CAGS eliminator aftermarket mod

Perhaps one of the V6 Camaros could have a hybrid engine, thats probably a better idea, seeing as people who want a more efficient car would get a V6 anyways, and just the get Camaro for the looks.

Hybird technology is still fairly new, if you own one, embarrasing, especially the Prius and Honda inlines. I mean 0-60 in 13 seconds? I could just lightly accelerate and get the same effect. Prius while capable of 60MPG usually averages at 45MPG, and a heavy Camaro would probably be slower and less efficient than gasoline V6 engine. (Remember the Prius weighs less than a Vette and only has a 1.5liter engine)

I don't think the hybrid will make it on the Camaro.
Hybrids do have crazy torque so they could decrease the 0-60.
The Prius is not slow for what it is. The Prius is 11 seconds 0-60. I rented one and took it to the track it ran low 11's in the 1/8th mile. That was faster than a 3.8 2002 Mustang auto that I had that ran 11.5
The tourque is limited on the Prius, if the tourque mangagement could be turned down on it then it could break things.
Once it gets going it is a dog though.
If it had a better engine for up top then it could perfrom better.

I am sure the Camaro will have AFM or DOD what every you want to call it.
I hope its flex fuel as well.

I know the Prius is a little **** in acceleration. But, supposedly this new Tahoe Hybrid with a 6.0 is no slug. So I just thought perhaps offering the Green Weenies a hybrid would be a way to boost GM's image, Camaro sales, and the like.
