Default Back To Regular? 6.0L @ 361HP?

With the introduction of the G8 and the confirmation that it will get the 6.0L w/ AFM from the Holden cars (I think L76..), do you think that this will be the base V8 for the Camaro?

I have this bad feeling that the General is going to try and save money by putting that whimpy V8 in the Camaro...

The reason that it makes less HP than the 6.0L LS2 has to do with the lower static compression ratio for regualr gasoline.

Who else has an ominous feeling that we are going to get a motor with only 10HP more than the last generation camaros?

I know that the LS3 is always available, but that would make it the 'top dog' motor, leaving the top of the line SS/Z28 with a meager 430HP.

I know 430 is quite a bit of go power, but it won't be competative with the GT500 or the SRT8 Challenger, especially if it is 3800 LBS...

I guess I just wanted to see if I was the only one making the connection between the G8 motor and the upcoming Camaro...

I actually don't mind the 6.0 liter 362 HP engine, (Whats is being called, L98?), as a base engine. As long as there is a LS3 option, who's complaining.

As much as a hate to say it "hydramatic" has more so convinced me into accepting several watered down versions, if it means that the new Camaro can stay afloat with 100,000+ sales

If there is a 260 HP(ish) V6 option, a 6.0 362 HP V8 (base V8), and a performance LS3 V8, everyone wins- They guy who just wants a good looking car, a Camaro, like he had way back when(V6). The guy who wants some power, but can't afford the LS3 tag, gas, or insurance (Base V8), and then the guy who wants to mop up everyone, Civics, Mustangs, C4's alike, and scream "Look out bitches, I got a LS3 Camaro" (LS3 V8)

I'm to the point where if GM can build a kick *** V8, while still making smaller V8 and V6 customers happy, why not?

ok i honestly think they will have that 6.0 litre 362 HP v8 as their base v8, to compete with the newly designed mustangs that will come out right around the camaros release. And, from recent articles, GM has said that they are working on some new small block v8's with DIG that make, "well over 450 horses" so if thats the case i see it as, new camaro, new platform, new motor. Lets hope for that new small block to be under the hood of the 'camaro.

As long as they have the "big" engine option i would want, i could honestly care lees if they put a 4cyl. in the lower model.
I'm all for whatever sells more models.

It doesnt matter to me. I'm probaly not buying one. Even if I did I'd just break the stock **** and have to put something else in it anyways. Know what I mean?

I understand, I guess if they but a bigger motor in, I am going to have to throw a LS8 or LS7 in there...

I hear your concerns loud and clear.
Those higher trimed mustangs carry huge price tags and don't sell high volumes. It is just all glitter. The run of the mill Mustang isn't that fast.

I guess that is really good PR though. People see the 1% of Mustangs that are rocking the house and think it is the superior option even with the v6.

I don't care if they put a 307 in there. hehe As long as the car is set up where another engine can be easily swapped in I would be happy about the car and my insurance bill.

Oh, and hope GM makes the engine bays a little more open this time around.

If and when I move to buy one of these, it will be a stripped down base model V6 that will leave the dealership sideways and go straight to my garage for a motor swap. I could give a damn if they only have one engine as long as it takes out it's competition. Just hope they sell like hot cakes so we get a sports car back!
