How long will it last????
By the end the lackluster sales and hideous marketing of the 4th gen F body was quite stunning. Combine that with the current dire financial situation at GM and it seems that they rather don't know "the business end of developing a car, marketing said car, and choosing the options that best meet the criteria required to keep it in production as a profitable item."
Trusting the people who are running the largest vehicle manufacturing company in the world while they are running it into the ground at full throttle is noble I suppose.
I quietly purchased the last GM vehicle whose styling and powertrain I liked...and will do it again if another vehicle comes out I like. GM isn't making anything I like...no big deal, there are plenty of other brand out there. As long as they are making enough quality vehicles that people buy in sufficient numbers to make a profit for shareholders in good times and at least cover expenses in really bad times I don't say bad things about GM. Currently....they are not doing that.
Do YOU like it? Who cares
What engines would YOU put in it if you made it? Who cares
What would YOU have done different? Who cares
You don't know the business end of developing a car, marketing said car, and choosing the options that best meet the criteria required to keep it in production as a profitable item. Every car is a balance, it can't have the best of everything or it will be too expensive, it can't be too cheap or it isn't worth it for them to manufacture it. It can't have all performance engines because not everyone wants performance and the performance line is a SMALL percentage of the total sales required to maintain profitability.
GM knows what they are doing, regardless of how much the people of LS1tech agree with it. You don't run the largest vehicle manufacturing company in the world, I think I'll trust the guys who do.
The people of this site are so closed minded on it not being the exact car that they would have built, and quite honestly that's juvenile and uneducated. If you don't like it move on to another car, we don't give a crap and you people don't need to go into EVERY thread about the car telling everyone what GM did wrong. The trolls of this section need banned, period. The same few guys are in every thread saying the same things about how they know better than GM what the car should be and every single thread about the car gets ruined.
The Mustang sells so well because its attractive to a wide audience and meets those different audience needs. If you want high V8 performance, they offer a supercharged V8 Cobra (GT500 for this 5th Gen). If you want V8 performance, but your cant afford the top trim, they offer the GT as an affordable alternative. If you just want a sporty midsized car (the overwhelming majority of Mustang owners), they have their base V6 models. And to add to all those trims, it still offers a trunk... a bench seat (more passengers, not saying its comfortable lol)... normal ride height (so you're not sitting on the ground).. a sunroof (can open/close with a push of a button without leaving the car.. unlike T-Tops).
So for them to sell the Camaro to the masses.. there are things that are going alienate us performance enthusiasts. Offering two V6 trims is extremely smart to build up sales... we dont like the idea, but we're only a small percentage of Camaro/Firebird owners. Giving it what seems to be a trunk (looks tiny as hell, but lol) is another smart idea that will help a bit. And a no T-Top option sucks IMO, but it works for the majority. The ride height and backseats are still going to hurt it... but... cmon.. its a Camaro lol.
All in all, I think they're doing what they can to sell this car and I see it selling pretty decent... nothing outstanding, but enough.
I'll have to give you this one for sure.... The 4th gens were never exactly easy to get into.... due to a recently injury, very similar to the one Tiger Woods has, my Formula has been parked in the garage for the last 8 weeks. I simply couldn't even get into to the car.
Thank goodness I had my Silverado to drive instead. I'm just now getting to the point where entry into and out of the Bird is almost normal. But if I remember correctly, I think they are doing two V8 trims. An SS trim with an LS3 and then later on a Z28 trim with a supercharged LSA. And if thats the case.. they have a much better chance of being successful with this run than they did with the 4th gens IMO.

Its a Zeta Body. The F in F-Body doesnt stand for anything but "F" lol.
If the car can sell well for 3 years then it should last a long time. Once we're out the recession and gas comes back to earth the days of the V8 will be here again.

ride you have there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
