What is the longest road trip in your F Body?
Post up!
I am concidering going on a several thousand mile road trip in my F Body right after I drop in a brand new engine.
The L92 in my sig is being built as I write this. I am going to have thirty days of post deployment leave and by the time I get back my SS will be done. Once I pick it up I will take it to LG motorsports for a tune, and then leave a couple days later.
Of course, I will change the oil after 500 miles, then 1000 miles after that. Should I drive the total 1500 miles with the two oil changes before I begin the road trip?
With a brand new engine, freshly installed, would you drive your F Body across Texas all the way to California? Would you trust yours?
I really have no reason to worry about a break down, but is there some gremlin out there I need to watch out for that tends to strike 500 or 1000 (or more) miles after an install?
My fiance and I just want to get away for a while together and do some traveling.

College is about 620 miles away so I make that trip fairly frequently. Hell last semester I was making it about every other weekend. Just as long as you change the oil and don't hammer the **** out of it, I would think it would be ok.

Longest trip was from Dallas to west coast and back (Dallas-Amarillo-Albuquerque-Grand Canyon-Las Vegas-Death Valley-LA-Santa Monica-San Diego-Tucson-Las Cruces-Roswell-Dallas, and countless of other places in between) in my 00 Z28 which was pretty much stock. IIRC it was well over 3000 miles as we took lots of smaller roads instead of interstates.

I drove from VA to NV before deployment and drove it back after I got home. A little over 3,000 miles each way. No problems whatsoever and the car already had 100k on the odometer.
I'd be a little uneasy though taking an extended road trip in a fresh rebuild.

Most of the miles on mine had been from long trips. When it was stock I drove it from Detroit to San Antonio then to New Orleans and back to Detroit. Since it has been modified I drove it from New Orleans to Detroit and back. I also took it to the Rio Grande Valley from Louisiana when Hurricane Gustav was threatening. I averaged about 26-27mpg with a bolt-on/cam/stalled car.

my 98 LS1 6-speed Camaro is my daily driver all year round. it has 180,000 miles on it with original engine and trans. I runs so great and is in great shape. I'v had it from Pennsylvania to Miami and back, with no problems. aprox 2000 mile trip. These are great cars. I say change your oil before you leave and you will be fine!
