What about just a really good set of street radials like the Eagle F1 or Falken Azenis or something like that? They should hook fine, cost less, and last longer.

Depends on how much power your car is making......if traction is an issue, you need some drag radials

i can spin nittos very easily w a 224 cam/3200 stall. when heated they have a fighting chance. dont see how a non DR could even come close.

I do have Eagle F1's on the car now, I never really got a chance however to try them out with decent conditions, it was always cold pavement (put them on mid November.) Before I look into other tires, im gonna give the F1's a shot first....also want to get a rear before sticky tires...

just run nitto's man, i got about 12k out of mine. i ran a set of bfg's after that, one blew with less than 10k on it, cords were not showing.

general rule on these types of tires from my use is, if you dont burn them, they will last 6months or so with decent performance. i pushed mine almost a year both sets, and now i went back to regular street tires and forgot what dead hooking was like. oh well

I run Nittos 315 DRs on 17" wheels they are good for DD. I don't do much drag racing, so these work out good for my style of driving. I run a 33psi on the street to help make em last longer. Bud of mine got 10k miles out his...not bad.

great thread!! im also looking at rims/tires really soon. i really would like to run nitto drag radials cuz i would still like to be able to hook. but then i hear some of the horror stories of some members getting into accidents. so i wonder if i should even get drag radials. plus my car never sees the track.

what horror stories have you heard? nittos hold up well in the rain, except when they are nearly bald like any tire on our cars.
nittos work well for DD and decent grip for drag racing and work out good for me on autox's.

I have driven my 555rs all week in the rain, on the highway, back roads, everything. The only thing I have noticed is they will wonder a little bit when the road has small ruts in it. I have 305/35/18s. Will probably never own a different kind of tire for this car.

the only expirence ive had with drag radials are hoosier dr and mickey t's dr and those were good, but i run the on factory 16X8 mini ws6 rims lol....i got around 5000 miles out of the mt's and about the same on the hooisers

if you can drive dont worry about the rain if the tire still has any tread... just be careful and watch for deep puddles......

mine lasted about 2-3 weeks also.... those radials are TERRIBLE, not only do they not last long they dont hook for ****..

i dont know about you guys but id rather run street tires to DD, thats what i do... then have a seperate set of a nice sticky tire like a MT et/street radial, or whatever you want... put them on for the weekends and just dont drive all night long...

no way my car will even remotely hook on nittos or bfgs.... i would just rather have a tire that would get 15k more miles..

ET streets are cool for a weekend car that doesnt see rain. They hook very well especially at the track.

I myself run 315/35/17 nittos all the time. I put about 10-12k miles on it a year and get about 10k miles to a pair of rear tires...and when they wear out I hit up dicount tires direct and get another two shipped to my door for $330. They get great traction in the rain and awesome traction in summer weather.

You got me beat, lol. Mine only lasted 3 weeks and 1500 miles.

Best and cheapest street tire that I've experienced is the Sumitomo HTR Z. Not the ZII or ZIII. The original Z. I bought my 255/45r17's from Tire Rack for like $80each. They are a 200 treadwear and I cut a 1.81 my first time out with a TH400 and a 4000 stall. Just did a burnout where the smoke started to get thick and that's it.

You don't really need dr's with your power, i have identical mods and am able to cut 1.8-2.0 60's on street tires and a lot of guys can do better. just save them for the strip and weekend fun. just watch out for rain.
On a side note. How are you able to cut 1.8's on street tires and a m6? Help me please I can only cut 2.15's on niitto D/R'S

be careful. i have the M/T et street radials on some stock 16" rims for the strip and i learned that they are scary as hell in the rain! i got caught in rain on the way home from the strip...not fun at all! it's like driving on ice around corners...even at very low speeds

i decided to go with nitto 555 DR's for my daily driver wheels when i can afford it.
