Default Intake leak? Huh?

I've had this whistling/vacuum sound in my engine bay for a while, it's really annoying. Really really annoying. I wasn't able to figure out what it was, but I assumed it was the AIR or EGR (forgot what a 2001 has) leaking. Yesterday, my mechanic helped me with some stuff and I asked about it.

He said my intake could be leaking (and something sounded like a bent rocker arm or something, is that really bad?) I checked and the intake looks like its only held on by a few screws, so should I take it off and inspect? I don't want to **** anything up.

Thanks.

Take a small tourch and JUST turn on the gas and wave it around the intake if the rpms start to rise on their own you have some bad intake manifold gaskets.

I have removed my intake several times with no problems untill the blower, finally got burned not changing the gaskets on the first start up with the blower. This is how I found my problems.

Ok, thanks. I guess I'll run to Wal Mart and pick up a mini torch.

I just bought a propane torch, opened it half way and weaseled it around the intake (avoiding the heads) and throttle body, it did not increase in RPM.

Bump. It sort of sounds like a supercharger. It's a whistling that increases with RPM's. Any ideas!?

Try to check all the little vac hoses on the back of the intake. There's a few around the big hose going to the brake booster. Also get it to the driver side fender inbetween the wheel and bumper the air pump is in there try to unplug the harness and see if that is your noise.

Mine does this too.....almost sounds like a blower when its idling. I always just thought it was the because the cam made it suck more air. It almost sounds like a blower whine, just quieter. Find out what it is so you can tell me

No need to disconnect air pump. Pull the relay in the fuse box under the hood. It will throw a code if it's not tuned out, but will aid in trouble shooting.

Pulled the air fuse, at warmup the exhaust got louder, which was pretty cool, but no go on the noise. I'm about to go out there and start pulling every big *** hose I can find until I find that noise.

Disconnect the belt for a few and see if it goes away. That will eliminate accessories. Check the PCV system. Mine makes a creepy whistling sound if i have my pcv valve turn one direction(truck valve.. not a poppet type.. )

well i just did used the mini torch thing to check for leaks and found none, couldnt really get all the way to the back but it was enough to convince me! the duals will be going on tomorrow as scheduled. i was worried i was gonna find a leak and it would postpone the duals install...

Have you gotten it tuned after the intake swap? As far as I can tell, it's important to get it tuned.
