Default OK call me stupid, I have a LSX ?????

I keep hearing about LSX. I thought LSX was an aftermarket block GM offered. That way if you had an LS7 like me, you could ditch the aluminum block, if you ever had any trouble with it. Plus the LSX block would take more HP. So what is everyone talking about with this LSX talk? What am I missing?

Sometimes, we refer to any car powered by an LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6 etc. as an LSX car. Just a general way to refer to the era of cars themselves.

LS series engines, as in LS1, LS2, LS3, LS4, LS6, LS7,LS9 and the Lq4, LQ9, LM7 truck engines and a few others. Basically its the Gen III/IV chevy small block engine architecture that determines if it's an LSX style engine or not.

I believe the difference is LS(x) and LSX. But its a lot easier to type it all in caps or lowercase so you just have to go on context.

lower case (x) as in variable since the ls motor come in many displacements and versions. LSX is a trademark owned by GM used to name the aftermarket GMPP line of block(s)
an example of a LSx would be
a iron lq9 6.0 with ls2 heads and ls6 intake manifold

Yep......what they said...........it should be LSx when referring in general to a Generation III/IV chevrolet v-8 pushrod engine.

Most folks say you have an LSx or LS series engine instead of the specific LS1/2/3/4/6/7/9/A or LQ4/9 LM7 ect ect

It gets more confusing if you say you have a smallblock.......(which you do) but then most people think the older distributor type Gen 1's
