I'd keep it parked inside, and just drive it on nice days. A few tasteful mods won't hurt either, but I wouldn't make it a drag car any more than a daily driver.

It's a rare car with a good chance of becoming collectible - especially since it looks like GM will not bring back the Firebird. That being said, it has been driven 52k with no rock chips and probably could be driven another 50 without getting any. My Formula has 77k with very few flaws and it's daily driven in all conditions.
Of course you'll want to avoid snowy days. Since you're moving to Kansas, you'll have to be careful of thunderstorms with hail (though the only risk areas are the tops of the quarter panels).
You'll also have to be careful about really windy days, of which we have many. I was sitting at a stoplight in my SOM car on a windy day besides a construction site when a big gust came up. Sure enough, a couple of rock chips on the door.

There is absolutely no reason why you can't keep it really nice and still drive it several thousand miles per year. You have to stay on top of it though. If you get a dent, fix it. No shortcuts, and as mentioned, keep the maintenance up to date. As far as collectability, you are past the real low mileage stage and big $$$ way down the road. At this point it won't matter if you have 52k or 72k as long as you keep it as desireable as possible. As time and the years pass, collectors appreciate an original car in it's original color. You see it in the various car magazines many times.

As an owner of a "1 in 4" car, and as the only thing really making your car rare being a paint colour (this is how we spell "color" in Canada), I would say I wouldn't treat is special at all. I just don't believe this generation of automobile will ever reach "collector status", just my opinion of course... Enjoy it, drive it!
Nobody ever thinks that any car in the present will reach collector status. I'm sure people didn't think much of a rarely optioned Camaro SS in 1969 either. But just look at what happened.

Or with mopars like the super bee...or road runners... even though there was alot of them made they still fetch a good price for a clean original. I always here stories from friends parents about cars they should have kept or wish they hadnt modded.

It's not just the color. Being a WS6 Formula is rare enough, then for it to be Sport Gold is just icing on the cake.

I just disagree with the statement that no modern car will ever reach collector status. If you happen to already have a rarely optioned/rare trim level of a car that's popular in the hobbyist crowd, and you can afford to not use it as a daily driver, then I think this is to your benefit.
Turns out real estate isn't the greatest investment lately either. Everything is a gamble.

Oh, and GREAT find! That's an interesting color, and I love Formula WS6's. They're rare as hens teeth compared to T/A's.
