I've used a lot of different brands of oils in my time with all sorts of cars and I don't believe I could say one is better than the other. When your talkin weights of oils I could see this, but not by brand. Only way I think you could really tell a difference is if you ran certain brands of oils in a certain engine then after a very long period, tore down the engines and inspected the internals for wear. How do you guys say certain brands are crap? I didn't know if after you used it, it caused engine problems, or if you tore down your engine and saw more wear after using a certain brand, or if your just guessing by what you read on the labels? I honestly cant say I've ran a certain brand of oil in a car of mine and then when I used a different brand of the same weight could say, "Wow, this one is way better! That other one was crap!" Maybe I've just been lucky though?
Thats true, the claim that hp can be made by changing oil is hard to understand. Ofcourse synthetic will gain power due to being a better formula, but going from one conventional or one synthetic to another I dont think will gain power.

I cant speak for many oils but I have taken old engines apart and you can tell when they have used penzoil. My grandpa has been rebuilding engines for 40 years and once told me that he could always tell by the build up in the cylinders, so I stay away from penzoil.

I have used mobil 1 for a while now but after hearing this I am considering Amsoil but will need to look into it more.

I love you man! Thank you for saying it before me. "Oh boy! Another Oil Thread!"

But discussion is good, I guess. I just find it funny that not all of the million or so members on here have had a chance to argue about oil yet.

No lock.

Whats up with the Pennzoil haters Pennzoil Platinum is actually pretty high rated on the independent tests. Again... Misinformation!

Use what you will but don't be influenced just because M1 is stamped on your oil cap. Think they printed that on there without getting paid?

agreed

penzoil platinum has been getting lots of praise, its what's in mine now and seems great

staying very clean, engine noise is a little quieter than with mobile clean 5000, and its not going anyway (around 2k miles and hasn't used any oil)

it was on sale for $4/qt at the time

I switched both my cars over from Mobil 1 to the Wal-Mart Super Syn stuff. Cheaper and actually seems to run better.

I work for Mobil 1 for a college job. The customers that use Mobil 1, specifically in the LS series engines, have no problems with the oil. All synthetic oils are very similar, however people trust Mobil 1 the most. I used to be a hard critic on Mobil 1. But after seeing the same vehicles come in for years using Mobil 1 with no problems i changed my mind.

Theres a bad *** with a 300k mile Suburban with a 6.0 that tows a huge horse trailer everyday. He changes his 5w30 Mobil 1 oil every 5000 miles on the dot. Thats 360 qts of Mobil 1 with no problems.

Convention vs Synthetic. The main difference is the start up protection using the synthetic.

I love the whole "i switched to "whatever" and it runs better, better mpg, quieter.
I would love to take someones car and switch up its oil using 5 different brands giving it back after every change. I bet you no 0ne knows the differance.

well normally I would agree, but I am talking about going from conventional cheap oil to a high end synthetic...it definitely sounds less like a diesel than it did

agreed sprayed 01. I've just used pennzoil platinum since I've had the car. I don't think I will ever know the difference, but I do believe the oil analysis

Mine went from 40psi hot idle with pennzoil platinum to 30PSI hot idle on M1. All this according to the factory gauge... But 10PSI on the dash is enough for me to say WTF.
