i'm new to the ls motors but in the gen1 chevy motors running solid lift cams we use a zinc additive or a qt of delo oil. the majority of zinc has been pulled out of oils these days due to being eco friendly.

I use LC20. suppose to stretch your oil changes out to 10,000 miles but i still do them in 3-4k.

cam lube in the oil is really basically beneficial for old style cams because modern oil is lacking and causes them to flatten lobes

i use lucas fuel additive every so often to keep things clean and lube the upper valvetrain but that's it

most oil additives just cause foaming which is much worse for your car

With a modern good quality oil there is no need for additives in the LS1.

5w-30 is the standard weight in our motors.

It's funny that it is about Zmax specifically, because I just saw a commercial with Carroll Shelby saying how amazing the stuff is and how he uses it in every car he can.

I would say it's amazing too if the Zmax advertiser's paid me what they had paid Carroll Shelby for one commercial.

I dunno how much it affects a lsx with the baffles and such in the pan, but bobistheoilguy.com found the lucas additive to do a lot of foaming, but I can't remember if it was due to the crank or just general foaming

I just try to get good oil

Don't put ANYTHING in your oil guys. Quality oil is ALL you need for these motors.

STP sucks and will fackup the viscosity.

why in the world would you do that? all those additive products are crap and just a way for the companys to make more money you dont need to add anything to anything if your engine is leaking oil and you put some crap to stop the leak in there you arent doing anything just fix whatever the real problem is

it wasn't me that did that. the guy at the shop put it in after an oil change because he was told to put "lucas" in. i don't think he realized it was tranny treatment and when i told him, he looked at the bottle for a minute and said it was fine. i asked another mechanic there and he said they're all the same. a week or so later, the engine started making a loud knocking sound. took it back to the shop and found out it was done. now i don't know if it was that treatment that did it or the engines time was up. it was the orginal 305 of the 82 T/A with 101k miles on it. the car was sitting before i bought it a couple of months before the oil change.

Find out what's in the tranny treatment. Contact Lucas and see what they think.

You are likely screwed, but engage brain and move forward.

haha, yep. take a look at the home page of zmax.com

http://www.zmax.com/

From the mouth of Shelby, "I've got a reputation to protect and I wouldn't recommend zMAX unless I knew it worked." It also says that he uses it in ever car and truck he owns. We now know the problem with the GT500.
