Similiar in performance- TA and GTO are pretty much drivers' races but when it comes to the drag strip the TA has a solid rear which trumps the GTO's IRS
not similiar in build quality- GTO is a much better built car and more comfortable
TA would be a better track car IMO, GTO a better everyday driver that can go.
I've driven mine cross country 4 times now, and I race it on any track I can find, and also do AutoX....is it the best at any? No. Does it do well at anything I throw at it, yes! Does it do anything I want without a squeak rattle or stiff seat? After 89K, YES!! I love this car.

i am not saying that the car is not streetable i am just saying that you might not want to drive it to work (if you do construction like i do or similar job) need to drive tools around and don't wanna get dirty. i drove tools in my camaro once for my boss and i felt bad for the car after that day i told him to drive his own tools.

I have driven a nice 06 M6 GTO and a nice C5 vette. I would have taken the vette easy and it was just a C5. I am in college and have the back seats now and honestly never use them. They are worthless and would be equally worthless in the GTO. Get the vette and dont look back you are gettin a lot more car for your money. Im sure you can find a way to get your stuff back and forth to school. I dont know about you but unless you are moving furniture, I hope you dont have that many bags of luggage as a dude to go home once in a while. I think I would have about 3 tops(Xbox, Laptop, Clothes) and you could pile those in a Vette easy.

Are they both the same price? What kind of mileage on both? If they are the same price with the same mileage (which I doubt) I would go with the Vette. If the GTO was 3-5K less and had 10-20K less miles I would definately be picking up the Goat.

Can you afford an older car, the maintence problems, ect? Look at repair costs for the Z06 vs the GTO. $2000 for a clutch install, ect...
Personally, I would have a Z06 and a GTO in my garage, but nobody is buying f-cars right now, so I won't give my ws6 away to make room for one.

If youre gonna be travelling from Fl to PA, youre gonna want some room like a trunk & back seats to put stuff. Youve already stated that. I would get the GTO even though its slower than the Z06, its a lot faster than the car youre driving. Theres no room in the vette. If the clutch goes out in the vette, its a major job & wont be cheap.

Good point. I think I might go with the GTO because the insurance is way cheaper and it would be more practical as an everyday driver for the time being because I dont have another car. How much would it cost to get an ls2 powered goat in the low 12s high 11s excluding nitrous?

If you do suspension and stick a fat drag radial on a 15 or 16inch wheel 11s is possible with heads/cam/supporting crap. About $2,500+ labor for a nice heads/cam combo, another $2,500 for a tune, LTs, wheels/tires, springs, intake, etc..
