Default Thoughts on redlining a semi-warmed car?

My buddy and I got back to his house the other day, and he walks outside, starts his 2000 formula up, and lets it warm up for about 3-5 minutes,(till the temp gage was reading around 100-105). The car hadnt been run all day, since around noon the previous day(this was at 6 at night) then he proceeds to back out the driveway, put the car in first, spin em till reline, and then pop it into neutral. Other than his oil temp shooting way up for a second, the car seems to be running normal(although he says the oil temp is reading ever so sligtly higher than before. Any thoughts on this? he already realizes it wasnt the smartest move, but I told him he should be fine. Not something I'd do every day though. This car has seen 6k rpms maybe three times in the last six months btw, he normally babies the hell out of it. It has around 65k on it

That's a good way to bend a push rod.

Like I said, it was a retarded idea, but I think he should be fine if he just changes the oil soon and keeps any eye out...the only thing im wondering is what to keep an eye out for? wierd noises on start up?

Thats what Im thinking, i just wasnt sure because I had never run into it before. The last thing he needs to do is throw a rod

it wil be fine, but i wouldnt do it again. if he waited longer than a couple seconds after start up its ok.

what happens when a car sits is all the oil that is engine will flow down to the pan(obviously), leaving the top end parts not as lubricated as they should be. If u start a car car up and rev it to the moon, you will have more of a chance to bend a pushrod etc... Remember a rev limiter is there for a reason.

m6's are more likely to damage engine parts when you hit the rev limiter. mainly because the split second in between gears.

I wasn't aware about M6s being more likely, thanks for the info. His car is an M6. His dumbasss roomate reved it to like 3k right before he hopped in...I think he should be fine, but I'll make him that much more aware that this scenario does NOT need to be repeated

Atleast it's not like this kid I know who got an '04 GTO awhile back. The first thing I did was fuss at him about putting regular in it and harped about running synthetics. I think that set in, but he'll still crank the damn thing and rev it to the moon as soon as it turns over. Too bad, really. It's an incredibly strong LS1 Goat.

I always let her warm up on a cold start. I've been guilty of a little throttle without being all the way heated, but never anything too abusive.

It's the pushrods they're talking about, you would hear ticking if you bent one.

No one is saying to baby it, just wait until it's warm to get on it

I beat mine like that bitch owes me money. That's not to say that as soon as I crank it I'm going to hit the rev limiter while reversing and roasting the tires as I pull out the driveway. There's a difference between use and abuse. I drive it like it should be driven, but not in an unnecessarily abusive manner.

7,000,000 is a lot of RPMs, did you use ARP rod bolts?

HAHA.

just wondering what the ticking would sound like? Would it be loud or quieter on idle? His car is making a wierd tick towards the drivers front tire, but it could have been there the whole time he said. you have to be really close to it to hear it and it makes it on the passenger side to, but you cant really hear it from the top of the motor.
