Is that seriously for gen 1/2 engines. Wow I did not think it was that much. I thought they had the exact same bottom end. The only similarity to the gen 1-2/3 is the the bore spacing and the # of cylinders.

Don't get me wrong- they can both make power its just that the lt1 needs more **** to do it.

I'll clean up this inequality, but it does make sense

LS1 >>>>>> NA-4v Mustang > LT1 > 2v Mustang

One issue ive had with the LS1 is the wonderfull piston slap. Ive had 2 ls1 motors in my car. Both had/have piston slap. Still reliable just sounds like **** before they get to normal operating temp. Once warmed up you dont hear it anymore. Makes it a real issue trying to sell a car that sounds like its knocking when its warming up.

Me: oh i seen you had t-tops on your lt1 and it was raining all day yesterday
Him: no i've never had them leak
Me: weird...(short pause)....i guess you don't have enough power to twist the chassis...(said this in an entirely joking way in front of a few guys)
Him: oh another one of your LS1 JOKES!!! you know what, they are entirely the same motor with just different intakes!!!
Me: oh really...?

I just had to walk away from that one....
true they are two totally different engines, but unfortunately what twists the chassis is torque, and ls1's and lt1's come from the factory with the same amount of torque.

No matter what go LSx, Motors are much more trouble than they are worth with the optispark reliabillity issues. Not to mention LS' motors react to performance parts better and are easier to work on and trouble shoot in my experience.

ya thats true. bugs me also. but i look at it this way: badass aluminum block and aluminum pistons. aluminum expands when warmed up. aluminum=lightweight

if u build a ls1..and build a lt1.. a lt1 would last a hell of alot longer most of ur ls1s spin rod bearings main bearings because of there poor lubrication systems i have them both..... the only reason ls1s out run the lt1s is one reason the cylinder heads.... but they are totally different one is just a better setup..

The biggest difference btw LT1's and LS1's are most LSx owners think you're an idiot for even thinking of driving an LT1, that they are slow and COMPLETE junk! LMAO
Nothing could be further from the truth.

The LS1 is a great engine, and so is the LT1.

IMO the place where the LS1 shines is a bolt on car, yes it will be faster than an LT car.

However, when you do Heads, Cam IN A STREET CAR, that difference almost disappears.

If you're looking to run 8's and have a lot of cash, definitely go LS.

But if youre looking for a 11-12 second street car, or even 10's. Not as hard to get an LT1 there as most think, and definitely cheaper than an LS1 car, especially when you consider the initial purchase price of the vehicle.

Dont jump me for this guys, I have mad respect and love for BOTH engines.

I Agree 100% both are great! Yes the ls1 shines over the lt1, but its hard to beat a lt1 when you can buy a decent one for 5k, put a le2 heads/cam package on it and run deep 11's for 8k. If you have no budget then it's lsx all the way!

I used owned a 95 TA, with LT4 and cam, and was a 6 speed. I now have a 98TA with simple upgrades, and is an auto. They are nothing like each other. My Brother is on this site too. He has a LT1. His car is super clean, almost like new. But I love my LS!

Neither one gave me problems. With the LT, I had allot of alternator issues. With the LS, I am having electrical issues.
