The difference never disappears. If you set them both up right the LS1 will still be about half a second quicker in the quarter mile.

Cost of the car is irrelivent and it's a ricer argument used way too many times by Civic guys and 5.0 mustang guys. It's not expensive getting a LS1 into the 12's. A few did it stock, many others just needed a lid and catback. 11's is cheap as well if you go N20. A buddy of mine was mid 11's on just a lid, catback, 3000 stall and a 100 shot.

I'm not saying that the LT1 is difficult or expensive to get 11's or 12's. But you'll be giving up a little ET. A full bolt on LS1 might run very low 12's while a full bolt on LT1 might run mid to upper 12's.

Both are good cars. Both can be made to go very fast. But the LS1 is clearly the better motor by design (more power, less weight, no opti, easier to work on, ect). If it wasn't then GM never would have replaced the LT1 with it.

another thing that is interchangeable is the lifters.

on another note stock for stock the ls1 is going to pull better from say 70-80 mph and up, no doubt about it b/c of the better head design. from a dead stop up to that point they are pretty much neck and neck. lt1's are still a fun car to have and drive every day. unless your out to have an all out drag car which most of us on here are not then it comes down to what your goals for the car are.

the opti is a poor design due to its location, but most see high mileage before needing replaced. its just another routine maintenance item like plugs and fuel filters and so on.

not bashing or favoring either one they are both great IMO... because when mods and h/c setups and the amount of $$$ willing to throw down come into play its anyones game.
