Saving an F Body, what would you get?
Assuming these cars are still for sale.
I can get a 2001 B4C rolling shell with a clean title.
Or a 2001 SS rolling shell plus with a salvage title.
I just found a wrecked 2001 Z28 that needs a body, it has 66,000 miles.
I like making something out of nothing and getting it as close as factory as possible. Not doing this for profit, just as a pure hobby that I like to do. If you can relate, which body above would you get?
I attached a pic of the 2001 Z28 donor I just found.

The SS was wrecked and fixed. It has a factory hood and spoiler.
The B4C is a SHELL, I think there might be a dome light wire lol.
But the B4C is black like this Z28, they both had tan interiors. I can basically make the B4C look like original with this Z28. But it's going to take a lot of work. I'm not really looking to make it a stripped down race car. That could change though.

One problem with the Z28 is the lady has a son or two, and she asked someone about parting it out and prices and told me $3000 for the engine and trans.
When I talked to her on the phone she was very indecisive on pricing the whole car.
It sounds like the insurance company totalled it and she bought it back, she said it's being towed to her house Thursday (today), then I'm going to look at it.
I know a guy that owns a junkyard and he bought a similiarly wrecked '01 Z28 a few years ago with 30,000 on it, M6. He bought it off a younger guy for $500, it would move under it's own power, the guy was in the military and got called to duty and had to get rid of it quick, he had no insurance on it and it was a one car wreck that no one seen.(I carfaxed it and the junkyard guys info matched carfax exactly)
My point is, I need to figure out how I am going to pry this out from this ladys hands without her sons influence for $2000 or less. Thats the only problem.

The B4C is a 2002 btw. It's still for sale I checked. It IS a shell too. I'd call it a dragger because it doesn't even roll, it's a body with glass.
I'm not much into low balling people.
Anyone have advice on buying?
I always give people asking price for stuff.

Well I talked to the lady with the Z28 and offered her $2000 over the phone. She's going to think about it. There is a small advantage here in that the car is about 15 minutes from my house and one hour from her house. I told her I'll save her the money of towing it an hour away, dealing with th hassle of parting it out, etc, and buy it sight unseen. I can tow it to my house with my own truck.
If she agrees, looking at the pics I believe I can fix the rear enough to drive it to a body shop and have them see if the frame is bent. If it's not I'll just replace the 1/4 and door. The only problem is the rebuildable title it will have.
If it is bent I can get that B4C for $700, I talked to that guy too.
Considering I like doing this kind of work, do the prices sound reasonable?

You can see it doesn't have that wrinkle in the pass side 1/4 like my car has, so yes it does look like it might be straight.
I'm curious to see what broke on the rear suspension.
This reminds me of the first 3rd gen I bought, the pass 1/4 was smashed up to the glass all the way back, and the rear housing was bent. All I did was replace the rear and have someone drive it down the road to see if it tracked straight.
It tracked straight so I replaced the 1/4. It turned out better than I thought.
The good ole days. I bought that '84 in '94 for $400, 1/4 for $100, rear for $125, paint for $200. It was an F41 with a new trans in it and cold air. Got that one from an old lady too.
