I have a 98 WS6. It has almost 160k on the motor. It still runs good though. I just bought headers, Y-pipe, 410 gears, LS6 intake, springs, pushrods and rockers. Im gonna tune it after that and I dont know how much more I should do. I was going to do a cam also, but I wasnt sure if that would be too much for my high mileage engine. What are your guys thoughts on modding a high mileage motor?

Honestly, I would have second thoughts. But I would more than likely go ahead with the mods. I'm sure it depends on how hard those 160k miles have been as to whether it will hold up. Good luck though!

Just make sure the rotating assembly is in good condition, get a new oil pump for the cam, and you are good to go. These engines are built like tanks if mantained properly.

I wouldn't go beyond bolt on's. If something breaks it will probably toast the cam or whatever other internal stuff you do.

I agree. If your car is going to break, it's going to break. Obviously modifying it will probably push it closer to it's death bed, but they made more ls1s so it's all good.

New rings, bearings, rod bolts, gaskets, valve job, oil pump and timing chain wouldn't hurt. Not really necessary, but while your doing your mods would be a good time to do it.

I agree with Plum Krazy...when you are doing the cam swap...I'd get a better/fresher valvetrain i.e. dual springs, chromeoly pushrods, new lifters (LS7), rocker arms (harland, comp, yella terra). I'd also recommend getting a new timing chain set; (double roller, LS2 timing chain set). I'd say buy an already fresher LS2 or low mileage LS1 and mod that...then when you have it all ready to go...just swap the old motor out and put the new one in...lol

mine had 132000 on the clock and she is just now getting warmed up lol, heads and cam next. **** dude if you take care of your motor then it will do the same back, but if you put shitty oil and dont clean **** out every so often then you may have some problems. I would refresh things like said above with lifters, rockers, spark plugs, clean her out with some seafoam before you do all this stuff just to get it ready for the new ****.

I say go for it, mine has 160,xxx on it now, i put the headers, ls6 intake, nitrous, and other little stuff on it at around 140,xxx, Im doing the cam swap in a couple of weeks.

LSx motors can take alot of abuse. I have owned quite a few high mileage cars. I would say do all the bolt ons 1st then see if you want to go all the way
