Default Stock rotating assembly

Turns out the LS1 I bought isn't in that great of shape. The seller disclosed the spun bearing, but didn't know about the blown out side skirt on the number 8 piston and the crank is too far gone to mill back. So I'm looking for an entire rotating assembly that is balanced.

Problem is, everywhere I look, they're performance level and 2000+ $$$. I might as well just buy a crate motor. I just want a stock setup. Anyone have a source where I can find one? I'd rather not buy used and I'd like to keep it under 800 if I can.

Under 800 Bucks? That's not gonna happen, unless you go used.

Is the block still okay after that kind of piston damage?

It would be tough to find a stock balanced rotating assembly, but you could probably pickup a stock LS1 shortblock for a fairly cheap price.

After labor charges for machine work etc. you'd end up saving time and money on just getting the whole shortblock.

yeah, that's my dilemma. I could probably find another short block for less than a rotating assembly. I don't want to end up with a bunch of stuff I can't use. but I don't want to pay out of the ***. think there's a market for an aluminum bare block? BTW, yes it's fine. the bearing and crank took all the damage according to the machine shop.

You could look around for random parts on here.

You should be able to find all the components you need individualy. < That's what I did the fisrt time I built up a motor.

It will just take some time.

I'm thinking at this point, and after some research, I'm going to sell off what I have and hopefully break even and go get a complete LQ4 from a certified recycle place.

I would cruise the FS forum here on tech, I've seen a complete 40K miles LS2 longblock on here for $2400 - I'm sure you could get a smoking deal on an LS1 shorblock. You could probably get around $300 for that aluminum block, and I would scrap the LQ4 idea unless your planning on building in for some big power, making the swap to the iron block will add around 100Lbs to the front of your car.
