Default Want to store my TA for a while...

I want to have it high enough that I can get a transmission in, but so far, I have only been able to find jack stands that go up to 1.5'.

Just putting it on 4 jack stands if safe, right?

any ideas on where I can find jack stands that can to 2 feet or more?

I used jack stands when I pulled my tranny out of my 93 T/A several times, never had a problem.....

yeah, I just found some jack stands that go up to 30", so that should be plenty of room.

Its safe as long as you get some that are rated for the weight of the car. Just make sure you correctly place them so you don't screw anything up and I'd say you are good to go.

The ones that I found are rated for 12 tons each :-)

Also, the subject of the thread is that you want to store the TA for a while. If you plan on not using your car for some time and you will have it on the stands for some time, make sure the suspension is loaded. Letting the suspension hang can damage your shocks if you keep it like that for long periods of time.

Hm.. I didn't know that. Jack stands on the rear axle will take care of the rearend. Maybe jack stands w/ wood on the front tires? Just not enough load to lift the body off of the other 4. The 4 for the tires don't need to be heavy duty, so that will only add about $50

Umm..you could probably just put the jackstands under the a-arms and that would keep it loaded. 1 for each a-arm and then 2 for the rear axle.

I could see how the stands on the axle will be ok, but wouldn't jack stands on the a-arm be too much stress for the arm's?

I think you would be fine, you could try a search on how some guys winterize their cars. See how they do it, they normally put them up on jack stands so the tires don't get flat spots.

why not build you some stands like we use at work. They are just made up of 2x4's and some wood screws.

Heres an example
