Why does gm put such crappy batteries in their new cars i bought 3 new gm vehicles in the last 6 years and on the older two both batteries didnt last 3 years i wanna say 2 1/2 years at the most im not cheap but i just hate sitting in the parking at work with an 07 car with the hood up trying to get someone to jump me off. oh yeah my mileage warranty had just ran out a few months earlier lol go figure

as a manager an auto repair shop in redondo beach, ca, i can tell you it doesnt matter what brand of battery, they just dont make em like they used too. personal experience shows that interstate lasts the longest, but i see them take a crap even after a year or so more often than i find acceptable.

Optimate is the best desulfator and it will bring back some batteries that have sulfated.

My ac delco batteries all last 6+ years. No complaints here. The one in my truck is 5 1/5 years old and it still starts right up even when it sits for a few weeks.

I didn't have any luck with a Red Top Optima for my Camaro. The first one lasted less than a year. They replaced it under warranty. The replacement lasted just past the original date of the three year warranty leaving me only the prorated warranty. Since they had raised the price in three years from $109 to $168 the prorated warranty was virtually worthless.
I'm not about to replace an overpriced Optima battery every three years for $168. I elected instead to get a yellow top Autozone with a 3 year free replacement at 1/2 the price. In the winter I will hook up my Optimate desulfator too it to keep it from sulfating since I don't drive it in the winter.
IMO it's the alarm systems in cars today that cause the battery to discharge and sulfate and if the next charge isn't long enough to desulfate the battery - over time all the plates will sulfate and become total worthless - unless you can desulfate it.
My original Delco in the Camaro lasted over 5 years.

I am an interstate guy. The car alarm on one of my trucks was drawing and drainging batteries in 12 hours. It took me probably 2 months to find the glitch. I went through three cheaper batteries before i got the interstate and it held up to the constant draining and short charging since i only drove about a mile to work. Interstate may not be optima but it is also under $100.
