Default Which clutch to grab

Hey all,

I'm in the market for a new clutch. I'm leaning towards the ls7, but I heard it has a heavier flywheel, which is said to make reving slower. is this true? i only have basic mods, the ram air mods, and then longtubes. If i ever went with a cam, it'd be a small cam. So i was thinking a stock c5 zo6 clutch or the ls7. your thoughts?

The LS7 is not bad at all for your power levels. If you have a high mileage it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace your master and slave cylinder while you're at it.

I'd say either LS7 package or if you want something a little grabbier then a RAM HD (I have this and love it).

I really don't think the power loss is that much, maybe a max of 5-10 rwhp. My car actually felt faster when I swapped out to an LS7 clutch because it actually grabs. I personally didn't notice slower reving or anything after the swap and it drives like stock. Just remember that until the clutch breaks in some that it'll grab close to the floor.

My brother had a RAM HD. I would not recommend it. He doesn't abuse his car at all and it started slipping horribly the first time he took it to the track. It was 1 year old and had less than 10k miles on the clutch.

if your car is a 01-02 theres no point in getting the ls6 clutch. my understanding is we already have it

Hmm. Me and another local guy both use it and have had no problems whatsoever with it. I spray the **** out of mine and he launches his car with slicks every week just about. Mines never slipped once, even on spray.

He must have bad luck then. He broke it in properly...he even makes a point to not let the clutch slip whenever he drives. He also had the flywheel resurfaced...he covered all the basis and 1 year later hes doing it over again.

Get a Monster. Talk to Steve at SNL about what you want to do and I assure you, he'll get you exactly what you need. I am 110% happy with mine so far.

I'm happy with the LS7 setup and it doesn't rev noticeably slower to me. You could probably get an aluminum LS2 flywheel if you are worried about the weight of the stock one. I thought about it but am worried it would make driving in stop and go traffic more of a pain.

Is your brother Joey? My friend Joey had the RAM HD and broke it in properly, and didn't even really race it, and it failed in exactly one year as well!
