id like a little clarity on this also, i always assumed all the v8 cars were Z28s and then you could get an SS package on top of that.

You're really lucky when you get the Z28 SS WS6 WS7 Firebird package. Now we're talkin!!! lol

But no, SS is a package deal. They claimed an addtional 15 horse w/ the ram air... Which don't count on.

So the above stated is correct.

^^ Yup, however, SLP stripped all the Z28 badges and replaces them with SS ones. You should not see an SS with Z28 markings.

For the most part, but the B4C cop cars werent Z/28s yet had the V8 and everything else, so there were exceptions

And did all SS's come with better lid and exhaust? I thought you had to upgrade those and they were "optional" and not part of the standard SS package

Funny **** - about 8 yrs ago when I got my SS, I called to get it insured and started arguing with the insurace lady. She was saying that they didn't have the Camaro SS, only the Camaro Z28. (No it's not a Z28, it's the SS) lol

Reviving this thread from the dead because a 96 SS actually did have "Z28SS" badged on the interior. The center console had the numbered plaque with "Z28SS" and the floormats have "Z28SS" on them.

Better lid & exhaust were optional as well as chrome wheels. When I bought mine it had the restrictor style baffled lid. A lot of them come this way including WS6s.

An original LS1 ss car had a raised bridge lid base though. The opening is about 2" tall versus about 1" tall on a z28.

Blackwing was the optional lid. All the cars came with the huge baffled lid unless they had the blackwing option.

I have personally never seen an SS with rectangle tipped exhaust but it is possible that they would have been special ordered.
