I miss my Z28, want to get back into a LS1 or LT1 soon. I have seen some crazy deals people have been getting on here buying LS1 from $3500-6k.
I want a WS6 trans am this time around not ruling out a Z28 at all. Prefer 6 speed as well.
i have not being following the LS1/LT1 market for over 1.5 years now at least as a buyer. just trying to see what 5k can do for you.

with a couple people in financial trouble you can get something pretty darned nice for 5k. you have to keep your eyes peeled, then you could come across an amazing deal!
ls1 z28's r probably gonna be in the 90k range for a 6 speed..
ws6's r gonna be a lot higher mileage...

your going to find either a troubled person who needs to unload it, or a really high miles ws6 for 5K
Granted I'm asking 10K for mine, but it is super clean, compared to most of the 11 year old junk out there. For 5K it will stay covered in my garage as a weekend toy, before I unload it for pennies. However, there are plenty of people out there who need to sell, so you may be able to find a 6-7K car for 5K cash.
I would expect paintwork, over 140K miles, and automatic for the 5K price point in a ws6, on a z28, you can find under 100K, no paint work for that price.

Heh f-bodies seem to go pretty high up here. I found my salvage title TA non-WS6 for $5k. Had 90K on the clock, a mint interior, and was bone stock in great condition but still needed about $1000 worth of body/paint work. I don't regret it for a second though
At one point the f-body market was so tight around here I was almost considering picking up a '99 Camaro SS that was wrecked for $5k. The body was in crap shape, had a horrible power steering leak, bad oil leak, and the subframe was in such bad shape the t-tops wouldn't come off and the doors wouldn't completely shut. Man that thing was a wreck... It sold a week later.

I picked up my 99 Formula for $5000 with 99K on it. It was a bolt on car that needed a tune and had a shitty Fuddle in it. Put a nice converter in it, got it tuned and fixed up some odds and ends. Got a 104K on it now and its paid off with less than 6500 total spent. Its not perfect by any means but I'm not worried about havin' a super clean car.

Scored my 98 T/A for 3900 bucks, drove it home. About 140k miles, t-tops, red, leather interior, M6. Love the car. Yeah, I've spent some time working on it, but my total investment is still less than 5k and I've got an awesome ride. I don't see high miles as a problem, nothing that was wrong with the car was abnormal and most of what I needed to fix I would have changed anyway. Car was all stock, right down to the factory decarbons and air lid!

ya f body camaros are selling for way cheaper than i would like them too, i see kbb my car at 10 or 11k but people selling ls1's for really low you could pull a nice one off for 6k ish maybe 5k cash. i would say go to craigslist type in 6,500 as a max price, keyword camaro. see what comes up and look in neighboring cities
