Default How do you close your hood&trunk?

I had a friend of mine thats a body shop owner tell me NOT to close the trunk or hood shut, but to rather bring it down all the way till it's resting and then just push down on it with your hand.

I've been doing this for the last two seasons and so far so good, but I am afraid of possibly denting or creasing the hood or trunk lid by pressing down on it each time but then again, I cant see my self smashing the WS6 hood shut either.

unless you have lead hands that weigh 30 lbs and you put all your weight on it... you wont.

I cracked the edge of my old WS6's hood like that. Now I close it almost to resting and then quickly just drop it shut, kinda hard to explain but so that it doesn't slam but just clicks into place. The trunk I always use the 3rd brake light to close, I don't know why just a habit I have.

i have an LT1 WS6, compared to my LS1 the hood seems heavier. Anyway, i let it slowly close itself halfway while im supprting it, then i drop it and it falls against the pressure in the shock and perfectly clicks closed. No stress on it at all. Trunk, i just grab the lid and pull it down, then press on it to make sure it closes.

Anyone think about installing one of those locks from the 3rd gen camaros? My friend in high school had an RS with the 5.0 and she just would pull it halfway down and the trunk would close itself, and when the hatch bumped shut, the latch was on am otor and would pull it closed all the way automatically! Then a few years later i bought a 91 rs with a 5.0, an identical car, and it didnt have it!? she was a dumb cheerleader,a nd bought it from her grandma who bought it new so i know it wasn't added, it was a factory option. I want this on my WS6. Reminds me of my 2005 750il! Doors and trunk all shut themselves

This is what im afraid of. I let it go down as much as possible till its resting and then just press down on it (usually on top of one of the scoops)

stock steel hood.. just closed it normally... held it about 8-10 inches from the lock and just put momentum on it . closed fine.

You would have to be very strong to bend or crack steel......

This isn't ******* 1973, your hood is going to be fine. Just don't be a dumbass and push down from a corner and you wont have any problems.

I have a fiberglass hood and I guide mine down until resting and then close with both hands right in the center over the latch. No problems yet. The hatch I guide down almost all the way and am just gentle when I close it.

I close my hood by bringing about 18" above the latch and letting in fall and drop shut. I developed "stress fractures" on both sides of the nostrils by bringing it all the way down and just pushing it shut. I did it a few times but I think when I dropped it off at the dealer when my windshield got busted, (insurance, I had no choice to get it fixed for free.) the dealer repair shop pushed it shut like that and made it worse. The guy that painted my hood fixed some but you can still see them. He recommended not pushing it shut but let it fall to shut itself. This is an aftermarket fiberglass hood BTW.

Trunk I just put my right hand under the spoiler and push down.

Same here, no problems, it doesn't take much effort to "click" it the final inch for the latch down.

I am surprised by this post really...is damaging the hood or trunk really an issue? Seems over thought to me. I just shut the hood firmly and let the trunk fall.
