c5 or ls2 gto
I'm going to have my car paid off in September and will be looking for a c5 or an ls2 gto within the next year. I'm split 50/50 between the two. I don't need the back seats of a gto so that's not a selling point for me. I like that the Vette is lighter and will be faster and get better gas mileage. I like the interior of a gto better. The gto will be cheaper initially in similar condition and mileage. But the Vette will be cheaper on insurance and will get better gas mileage. Either one would have to be an m6. Which car would parts be easier and cheaper to find? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'd love to go test drive each but both are really uncommon in my area.

thats a tough one. i know the back seats aren't a selling point for you, but you really never know when you may need the space. an ls1 C5 and an ls2 gto will run similar 1/4 mile times. both independent rears. tough call. i'd go with an ls2 gto, seeing as how its newer

Since the backseat is a non-issue I would buy the Corvette in a heartbeat. You take the LS2 out of a GTO and you have ??? A 'vette has so much going for it from so many different angles no matter what V8 they throw in there. They have always been quick enough. Gas mileage is important in the future too. I am sure we will see $4.00 per gallon gas again once the economy improves. The price only came down due to the downturn. I had no idea insurance would be less on the Corvette. That's another plus for the 'vette and a checkmark in that 'BUY' column. Of course every purchase is an individual one and asking here will get you 100 different vantage points. Whatever YOU like!!
** I would like to add that if you keep the car for many years I believe you will see that the Corvette will do better in the re-sale department. A high mileage GTO won't bring the same $$. My opinion anyway.

My friend, this week, bought a 2003 Z06 with 10k miles, black on black for $25k. That to me is way more of a better deal then a 2005-6 GTO. And besides what would you rather say:
I got a goat . . . or
I GOT A DAMN VETTE!!!

I like the c5z but think I would rather have a coupe so I can have a targa. Both of my Camaros have been hardtops and I'd like to have the removable top but no convertible. They do nothing for me.

No, they have the FRC (fixed roof coupe) bodies.
And OP, a base C5 will actually be cheaper if you're look for an 05-06 GTO. I know this because my brother is looking into them and I can't believe what people are asking for them.

I've found a 2000 FRC for $16.3k and Speed Density has his c5 for $15k and change but I don't have the money yet. I'd really like one close to 50k miles but it all depends on how well it was taken care of.

What are you buying the car for, daily driver, weekend warrior, all around car? Are you keeping the camaro or replacing the car with this?
I love my GTO, I bought it as a daily driver for a 60 mile a day commute. It is FAR more comfortable to drive than a vette, a little more practical, cops don't pay attention to it.
Financing a 2005 GTO will be a lot easier than financing a 00-02 corvette, if that is a concern.

my GTO averages 18.1 mpg with florida "up to 10% ethanol" fuel on my commute, with 50% stop and go traffic, and 50% 70mph toll road driving.
the highway it does get 26 mpg with AC on, around town, the milage sucks, single digits or low teens are common to see on the instrument cluster.

Why is this even a question? It's a ****** VETTE!!
Back in grade school if you didn't want to drive a vette when you grew up you were a nancyboy! Will a GTO improve your chances of being awesome? no! Most people don't even know whats under it's hood.
But the Vette. The Vette is the universal symbol of badassery. You can never go wrong with a vette(C4's the exception).
I'm sure if you got a GTO you'd regret it instantly.

Whatever I get will be a dd most likely. I would most likely sell the Camaro. My bank will still finance pretty much anything I'd buy. I've had 2 4th gen Camaros so I'm wanting something that doesn't rattle over bumps.
