Default Dyno or Dyno Tune?

I found a shop near me that has a dyno. I am considering getting a couple friends together and going up there. My question is, with my car being just a basic lid/cat-back car is there any reason to have it tuned? For just dyno runs it is $50 for the first pull and then $15 for all subsequent pulls. For the tune it is $100 an hour. A/F is an extra $10 a run or $25 an hour. What do you think is the best thing for me to do?

I would just dyno it for the fun of it. You could probably pick up 10-15rwhp with a tune, just cleaning up A/F and getting rid of somethings like torque management... but its not really worth the money.

Why would you consider 2-3 pulls? Its going to be the same every time on a stock car like yours.

That's a pricey dyno. But if he can tune your car in under an hour, than getting the dyno-tune would almost be worth it.

Ok, I can understand that. But wouldn't $50 for an extra 10-15 HP be a great deal? I don't know of another mod for that price that could get those kind of results?

if you plan on modding in the near future I wouldn't get a dyno tune, and wait to you get more mods to get a tune. If you are happy with your car now and plan on keeping it like it is I would get the tune and pick up whatever you could.

Can the guy get it done in an hour? $100 for a tune on a dyno is a great deal... but i dont see it getting done in under an hour.

These guys aren't exactly f-body specialists to begin with. Maybe it is best that I just go with one pull and no tune. What about the A/F, is that worth the extra $10 if I'm not getting it tuned? What about for my wife's '71 SS Chevelle? It's got a 565 in it. Seeing as these guys are more import tuners is it even worth taking other than to see what kind of numbers it pulls? We know what the motor makes on the engine dyno without Nitrous but have been curious to see what it lays down with it.

Just treat it like a dyno day, and throw the car on there to see what it makes. If they are more import guys, are you sure they even have the software to tune your car?

I can see 1 hour turning into 2-3, and you being stuck with a several hundred dollar tuning bill, and getting very little out of it.

They dyno and tune all sorts of vehicles so I don't think software is the problem. I just don't want it to turn in to what you are talking about. $300 for just a few horsepower.

unless they give you a firm / reasonable price you may want to have a mail order tune or wait until you get some mods like headers / cam.

For what you have done, a mail order tune would be more than enough. If you are looking to see what you can get out of it, then pay the money and get by with a simple dyno pull. Personally, I would wait and do any future mods, then get a dyno tune by an F-body specialist. My TA was tuned 2 owners ago, but it is definately not right. The long fuel trim is at 14% and it is fouling plugs. I will be going to SPEED INC. this fall to get it dialed it correctly. My buddy with an '04 ZO6 picked up 90 RWHP with his stroker motor by going to them. Not to mention that beast idles great with the AC on.

Are you planning to mod your car or not? If you are, then don't bother, if you are planning to keep it stock like it is now, then get a dyno tune...but go to a shop that specializes in fbodys not some random one that tunes all cars. This is a pretty simple answer people

If you are gonna do any other mods in the future I would wait until then.
