What octane gas are you guys running?

Octane helps prevent detonation and knock caused by high compression. With Iron heads a good rule of thumb is 8.5:1 87 octane, 9.5:1 89 octane, and 10.5:1 91 octane. With Alluminum heads you can go .5 point of compression higher, 11:1 for 91 octane. My Jeep runs 8.5:1 compression with an iron head and gets only 87 octane. It's a tractor motor so that works.
Remember that this is effective compression that matters. an 8.5:1 compression turbo motor makes much more effective compression and therefore requires higher octane fuel.
The Camaro gets only 93 octane Chevron gas. I've noticed a substantial decrease in performance at the track running other brands of premium fuel. This is without any major modifications or tuning. In fact, the automakers use Chevron gasoline with Techron for EPA testing, even though they do not market gasolines in the Midwest (they haul from Louisville KY).

I run 87 right now, but im also unemployed at the moment and trying to save some money. Car still needs a tune, so it waste gas alot more then when it was stock but before i got laid off. I was running 91, since it was the highest i could find.

91 or higher here. Its a bit of a drive, but occasionally I fill up with 93. I can't really notice a difference in performance between the two, but if I could I'd run it all the time. Although a friends mom filled his 98 Z28 with 87 once and he said he could totally tell the difference between it and premium. He ended up adding some Octane Boost to that tank, just as some insurance.

I ran Sunoco 93 all the time until my gf's Giant got a gas station and you get good discounts just for having a giant card, and you get 10 cents off every $100 you spend in the store. Car doesnt seem to run any different on their 93 vs. Sunoco's.

That's what i'm sayin. The local costco's gas is like 20 cents cheaper with a card...but it's 15 miles from the house so screw it haha. They sell race gas at anyone else's sunoco? They sell 112 here.
Most gas stations gas contains 10% ethanol. Theres only 2 around here that have no ethanol gas, one is 15 miles away and one is a shithole...last time i went the old redneck **** attendant got mad when i tried to pump my own gas...but i don't need someone else to pump my gas for me...

generally my rule is to stick to the big two, Shell and Chevron. if needed I will use 76. Everyone I know stays away from arco, its even recommended to not use it by all of my trainers. It costs less for a reason, it sucks. But usually as long as you stay away from arco, valero or any other low end stations like that you will be fine
