Let's assume the following:
Octane:___87_______93
Fuel Cost:_$2.459___$2.709
Fuel Used: 14 gal in both situations
You cost to fill up would be: $34.42 for the cheap stuff and $37.93 for 93.
Since the engine pulls timing reducing power and fuel economy lets say you got 18 mpg running 93, and 16 mpg running 87. Your distance traveled on the same 14 gallons would be: 224 on 87 and 252 on 93. Divide the cost to fill up by the distance traveled and you get. $0.154/mile for cheap gas and $0.151/mile for expensive gas.
What does this mean? Yes, you paid more at the pump, but you drove further on that gas. They cancel each other out and actually slightly favor the higher quality gas. Combine that with the potential negative side effects of cheap gas and it is actually a better financial choice to run the good gas in your high performance engine.

hell, it's my money and my jeep...well actually sold it like 2 years ago. Say what you want, but i drove it for the first few months i had it on 87 and noticed a difference instantly after switching to 93. i'm not saying it gave me 10 extra miles to the gallon, but it did help.
Octane is needed to prevent detonation. It does not "burn any cleaner" like people say. Your Jeep did not perform any better with 93.
