Keep it until money comes around, you'll graduate from school and hopefuly you'll earn money to restore it. You might have to aim a little lower at restoring it at perfection.... I believe the fun part of it is enjoying the car, and not so much storing it as a piece of history.

I cannot beLIEVE this thread.

If you are thinking that a 96 LT1 car is more "worth it" than a first gen Firebird your dad gave you ON THE DAY OF YOUR BIRTH, then you don't deserve the car.

No one says you absolutely have to build the car as a "proper restoration" right now. Who says you can't make it driveable as your first build for that 67? Put whatever the hell you want in it for right now, put in a junked 350, a used Vintage Air system, and DRIVE IT until you're ready to restore it the "proper" way in the future.

Reality this, reality that. Yeah, yeah. The reality of it is that if you sell this car, become well-off in the future, buy a 67 Firebird and restore it, you will STILL regret the fact that it's not your dad's car and it could have been.

BY THE WAY, I have done the LS1 swap in my v6 fourth gen Camaro. It took me a long time, but automotive dreams do come true. lol

I also have a 72 Firebird. Not restoring it the "proper" way though. **** that. I can't stand the Pontiac 400 that's in it now. That engine was built buy a Chevy shop by the previous owner () and getting the 400 to be the way I want it costs twice as much as an LS1. The Pontiac aftermarket is a little ridiculous with their overpriced heads.

Sorry for the rant. In conclusion, keep the goddamn car. It's a part of your family!!!!

My Dad was trying to convince me to sell the car tonight. He is not a big car fan and never has been keeping the car was my uncle's idea. He told me if I could sell it I would be doing him a favor by getting it out of the way and by helping pay excess bills...I cannot go through with it I simply cannot. I have never considered selling or trading it, I just was curious as to what I could get for it. The car means more to me than anyone else in the family because this is just one of several we kept over the years. I also have a 1972 Monte Carlo, 1963 Buick Riviera w/ 445 wildcat, 1966 3/4ton pickup, and a 1973 custom ford pickup. All of them need completely restored except for the 73' pickup which we have never stopped driving I have put a lot of blood sweat and tears into it and it still needs more .

i held onto my 68 firebird convertible for 15 years not touching it. now its getting done and its gonna be sweet. 3 years ago i would have sold it for $2000 just to get rid of it and i would have been hating myself for that now. keep it and someday you will do something with it.

If you aren't interested then take the damn ad down and quit posting here about it. This thread seems pointless since you claim your mind is already made up.

Might as well let it die if you want to keep the car.

Agreed, this thread has run its course and now seems pointless. We dont need updates on cars you were offered for a car your not getting rid of.

The fact that you are considering selling the car says your heart really isn’t into it. Restoring that car should be a labor of love that you could do over several years. It doesn’t have to be “perfect” and could be a resto mod car. It could have a basically stock motor or an LS1. You could rebuild the suspension and build a great cruiser. It really sounds like you just want to go street racing and you’re using this car to finance that. If that’s the case sell the car so someone who honestly appreciates it can build it with his son and someday pass it on to him rather than just let it rust away and never be restored or driven again. Otherwise it will someday become a great barn find for someone who can’t believe it wasn’t restored in the past.

I'd rather do a '67 Firebird + TH400 + 455ci/4bbl.

In the mean time he can pick up a cheap 4th gen with LS1 for some quick street fun. A well balanced garage should have a modern LSx and an old school carbed muscle car.

Keep it!! Even if it sits for years in your back yard or garage under a tarp, i'd keep it. If I wanted to get rid of my car I'd trade you for it to restore it with my son someday.

For the love of GOD do not trade or sell your dads car. That will be the worst mistake of your life. I would do just about anything to have my dads vette back. But he ended up passing away and that was the one thing that made him the happiest beside our family. You will regret this mistake. Do it and stages and you will have a nice car in the long. You don't have to buy everything at once. Just keep it.

you from the kansas city area?

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/1500265023.html

is that it?

you have something special. do not sell it. this is coming from a 17 year old kid with an ls1. yes ls1's are cool and all that but you have something truly special. spend some time and do it right. you will regret selling it.

just my two cents

Yes that's the ad that I'm taking down tomorrow. Like I said I'm not going to get rid of it but I was putting my Camaro up on craigslist and thought I'd throw the Bird on there just to see what happened. You can go ahead and put down this thread its seen its last day. Some of the offers were pretty entertaining for me and my Dad though. I got offered a V8 Volkswagen beetle today, a 1951 Dodge 5-window set up to race, and a 1978 Buick Regal ugliest thing I have ever seen with lime green to red flames with purple interior and a built 455, it was nice to see other people appreciate my car. I'm actually having a guy come estimate what my car will cost to have some body work done tomorrow so thanks for all your opinions guys it was good to hear I should keep it from someone other than myself. Thanks.
