Default anyone with a silverado 2000ish...quick question

will the check engine light come on if the change oil light isn't reset?

also can I go in to somewhere and get it scanned for free, i don't know where to hook up a code reader to these never had one this new

I wish I knew why it was on, new stuff makes me nervous, i was hoping it was because of the oil change indicator

No it does not. On mine, you get an oil life message stating you need an oil change. Not the check engine. Mine is a 2001 2500 HD.

Also, good luck getting the code checked at Autozone. In California its illegal for them to do so.

01' Silverado here... My engine oil lights been on for a couple weeks and no engine light.. to reset it I think you just turn the key on and push the gas pedal in three times.. Of course I keep forgetting to do this everytime I drive my truck

to reset the change engine oil light, which I'm assuming also resets the oil life monitor

It's illegal for them to check it, or to clear it? Clearing a code, i'd understand. but even then it'll turn back on if it's something worth turning on for.

all auto parts stores can check them but i know the one i work at(autozone) isn't SUPPOSED to clear them and i think that goes for the others as well.

my check engine light is now on for Cat #2 below efficiency, i cleared it but it comes back...sigh...
