The most overlooked aspect in car modding would have to be my wife who never lets me forget it.

The other one is the purpose for which the car is being used for how often have you seen some build a loud big cammed car for a daily and they hate it?

cheers

Suspension, Brakes, and Purpose.........

If it's a DD, make sure you can use it as one. If not, no need to worry about the comforts and driveability so much.

This is a really good question to ask before building a car, WALK NASTY984. I would say suspension is definatly overlooked as well as drivetrain. I know lots of people (including myself) that built a motor and then broke the trans/rear and had to shell out alot of $$$$ to get it back up and running again. My suggestion is build the car from the rear forward, to prevent breakdown and increase reliability. That's what I'm doing with the new whip

I think people tend to overlook the whole picture a lot of people just slap parts together whether it be in the motor suspention etc all the parts have to work together. I think people get cought up with haveing the most expensive parts out there and it doesnt always work as well together as it should

Being honest with one's plans for the car. Once done with that it then comes down to matching components for what you want to do with the car.

People keep saying I'm being old fashioned on how I'm modding my car: Did 100 percent suspension first, then drivetrain, now its brakes and rear, and I'm still bolt ons.

That I would say is a personal preference, really.

I would say that a lot of people forget about making the whole combination work. In other words you need to have the cam, compression, gearing, stall speed, drivetain, and suspension all matched for the whole combination to live up to its potential(and intended purpose). Most people put together only certain parts of the combination and never finish or follow through with whole package. Attention to the details of a combination really add up and make a huge difference.

Whether you can afford it or not I sure cant. One day it will be "fast" in my book x3 on the brakes..you gotta slow fast if your gonna go fast..although our brakes work pretty good stock. Suspension is a must. Hell my Xtreme handed better than the SS when i got it..lol

SUSPENSION...

but aside from that, i think its the consideration of the negative consequences from the mods you are plannnig on doing...its easy to get caught up in the "a big stall will get me a way better time" but for a DD is it really worth killing your gas mileage all the time for a time slip? most likely yes, but something to think about

A year ago, I would have agreed fully, but... have you rode in some truly fast FI cars? It can be decision changing, I will tell you that

I overlooked keeping it daily driveable. Technically it IS DD-able (I DO daily drive it), but during the winter it's hell with the cam and the full spool in my 12 bolt.
