met a cool guy with a SWEET car...
Ok I was getting gas yesterday at a station in my town. I hear this heavy camming coming from behind me. I turn around and see a red C5 Z06 pulling in. He leaves the car running while he is pumping gas...I know stupid! But I decide that I am going to go talk to him...I walk over and almost have to yell over the sound/camming of his car. I say nice Z06...he replies "thanks" I then say in a tone of voice like asking a question "it's not stock" he then replies...NO its a 440 Stroker!!!! I talked to him a little more...and he says that it has 245 trickflow heads,2 inch diameter stainless headers,3 inch exhaust with electric cut-outs,12:1 compression, upgraded clutch, built T-56,with 3:73's. He said that he has payed more for the work on the car than he did for the car brand new....He said that it dynoed 715rwhp!!!!! LS7 block bored and stroked....I should have asked him what he did with the LS6...he then went on his way and revved as he drove away...by far the fastest street car that I can think of in my little town...guy appeared to be late 40's early 50's. Real nice guy tho

Static compression is only one variable in the Octane required to stave off detonation. There are a whole bunch of V-12 XJS's with 11.5:1 compression that happily run on 87 Octane fuel with no knock. Quench area, block/head material, timing, etc. all play a role.

Rule #1. You can't believe everything people tell you.
Rule #2. You can't look at a lsx motor and tell how big it is. (They all look alike)
I have a hard time believing 12 to 1 SCR is running pump gas. Probally a LS6 with a hot cam and hole in the muffler.

Well I am just telling you what he told me. He did say that it was on 93 pump gas I saw him putting gas in it. I didn't see under the hood or anything but I am sure that it was not just an LS6!!!!! I just looked at my original post.....I goofed up he said 615 RWHP on the dyno! NOT 715!!! SORRY!!!!!!

you usually discharge the static when you exit and touch the car. I'm gonna guess that is is possible that some kind of electrical charge could pass through the car, and since it wont exit through the ground (due to tires), it will travel through the gas pump, which in turn could spark, which could cause a fire.

Better safe then Boom ... turn off the car. Plus save a little gas while your pumping gas .. its quieter ... and if your camming .. you want to be able to talk to the hot girl that is walking up .. not making her scream.

I just never ever heard of a car going kaboom because of pumping with the car on. To me, its equivalent to the myth that a car will also catch on fire when a cell phone is used while pumping gas.

I always thought it was common sense to turn the car off while pumping gas considering at EVERY pump it says "please turn your engine off before fueling" And no its not a myth it can really happen (slim chance but still can happen) and with cars now a days the fuel system is pressurized and has sensors in it like everything else in modern cars so it could set off a CEL. If you google it you will find a ton more informaiton.

I sometimes don't turn off my car, it's not a big deal to me. Sure there's a chance something could happen, but it's like a "I got struck by lightning on a cloudless day" chance.
If anyone ever says anything, I'd just reply "It's ok, the thousands of explosions happening are internal!"
