Default What the hell is this?

I feel retarded posting this, but I have been searching for a while and am pretty frustrated with it. What the hell is this metal pipe i circled in the attached photo. is it simply a radiator hose, i know it comes out of the water pump. only reason i ask is because my 2000 Z28 doesnt have it, only a regular hose. is it important? Thanks for the help.

Aftermarket connection someone made. I'll have to do that to my new build because the inlet and outlet are two different sizes.

I do not believe it is a cooler, but i could be dead wrong. If its for coolent from water pump to rad it is not stock.

WRONG. It is a power steering cooler, found hit and miss on the early LS1 SS cars and they eventually made it standard on all LS1 F bodies.

And I would disconnect that thing before it fails and starts exchanging fluid with your radiator taking out your PS pump and causing you to do a radiator flush too..... An all too common problem.....

Nobody "needs" the stock ps cooler.

If your doing any kind of road racing where the ps fluid gets hot enough to need a ps cooler, you have already maxed out the capabilities of the stocker.

As others have said, this peice is more of a liability than an asset because it will fail. Not "if" but "when". And it will cause more problems than it helps.
