guys in 30 years the world will driving electric/battery powered cars... these dinosourian combustion engines we drive today will be limited to one cruise per week via a special class of licence or some ****.
with that being said, no matter what gas prices get to I will still drive my V8 12 mpg truck cause I am a free, red blooded, beer drinking American with 110 octane running through my veins dammit!![Rock](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies2/rock.gif)
Enjoy your cars while you still can fellas!

If gas does hit $5/gallon this summer, it won't stay there long. Such expensive fuel will destroy the weak recovery we are in, send the economy back to hell, and shortly thereafter gas demand will drop like a rock and so will prices.

I agree with RPM, I was reading a magazine the other day and it had a quote..." We could get the same effincicy out of a gasoline 4banger or 6banger as we could an hybrid or electric car but america likes its horsepower".
IMO, if engineers keep devolping motors like the new 6banger ford has in the 11 mustangs then combustion engines aint going anywhere for awhile, they will have enough power and great mileage to make people happy.

Last time prices were high I bought a '89 CRX. 35-40mpg. $875. Paid for itself in about 5 months.
Still driving it daily back and forth to work. Still drive the Camaro when it seems to be the thing to do.
Best of both worlds.

If it gets that high I will be looking for some deals. When gas hit $4 a gallon I went looking for a used 08 Suburban. Found one turned in at 36K miles fully loaded at $25K.
I fill that anti green Suburban with Super and love it! You will be surprised how many folks will freak out and turn in their cars to buy more fuel efficient vehicles... but their new car payment is way more than the monthly gas bill was!

In 30 years, I'll bet that at least 50% of the cars on the road will still be using gasoline. Think of it like this; I still see cars that are 10-20 years old on the road every day (and I live in an area where salt destroys cars, so I'll bet in the south people are DD'ing even older cars more regularly). Today, nearly all cars being built still run on gas or partial gas. So even if they stopped building gas powered engines tomorrow, you'll see the new cars of today on the road for at least 15-20 more years. And we are nowhere near ready to stop building gas powered engines, so it's going to be a VERY long time before gas "goes away". I doubt it'll be in my life time, and I'm only in my 30's.
So many alarmists in this thread.![Nono](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies2/nono.gif)

We have been producing IC engines for well over a century now. 10 years of a hybrids making a tiny ripple in the ocean of cars sales isn't gonna turn everything into a battery tomorrow.

Got any proof to back that up? If one were to listen to or watch Glenn Beck (rather than listen to what Jon Stewart or Keith Olberdouche says), one would actually realize that Beck backs ALL his stories with video clips, or quotes. I'm still waiting to prove HIM wrong. All people can do is attack him personally... never his message.
