Default LM1 vs LM2

I have a borla system now but im switching over becuase its not what I really want for sound. I know the LM1 has a resonator and LM2 has a muffler and I've listened to some sound clips online. How much quiter is the LM2 than the LM1? What type of sound do they each make, and are both the LM1 and LM2 louder than most other setups out there?

they both have resonators. but the slp "loudmouth" exhaust that came on slp camaros and firehawks has a muffler.

I have a LM1 on my car and it is loud, I like the sound, some people don't. Recently I had a 6.0 put in my car and I had to go with a different muffler because the LM1 was too loud.

I've never had a LM2.

my 01 z28 has a large cam, LTs, ory, and the lm2...

its louds when heavy on the gas, sounds like a race car.
when at idle, it is pretty quiet.

i like how it sounds and many other people do too... plus its a lighter weight option over full muffler systems

i like my lm2 with LTs and ORY. except for the little rasp it gets, it's pretty decent.

i think your right, that its a straight through design. i didnt think many other exhausts out-flowed the LM1...i guess maybe gmmg..

if you plan to do headers and/or cam avoid the lm1 at all costs...its raspy and annoying sounding enough with manifolds, loud as hell too

LM1 is a straight thru design...LM2 actually muffles the sound lol but still a Bullet style Resonator....
I would put an XR1 Borla resonator in place of both of the LM's...for some decent sound.

they're flow through, but still have an effect on the sound, it's not hollow, the materials in the casing have en effect

I have LT Headers ORY and LM1 and LOVE IT! I have had it for about a Month and It hasn't gotten on my nerve one bit... I love the piercing sound it gets at 3000 RPM and it's really not rasp in between 3000-3500 its more of a trumpeting sound that echo's off of building from long distances haha. Under that its just a nice deep smooth sound with no rasp. It's not over bearing what so ever I actually think my car is quiet now that I've gotten used to it but my friends say its loud as hell outside and way less inside and they all love the sound...

Once I go Head and Cam I might go with a Borla XR-1 to quiet it up under 3000 but idk yet because it might not be as loud as people say like they said my set up will be.

But to each his own...

It's going to be louder than hell with heads and cam. When I had a LM1 on my 402 car the only time you could hold a conversation without yelling was with the windows up at a steady highway speed. I may be crazy but I think the car was louder with the LM1 than it is now with an open cutout. If you like loud cars you'll love it.

I have never heard of anyone swaping a borla for a lm. I have heard all and imo borla sounds way better. If anything I would look into gmmg, magnaflow, or just stick with borla.

Wrong ...you're thinking of the Dual-Dual.

LM1 = hallow tube
LM2 = bullet muffler
Dual-Dual = option for SLP cars

I switched, and a few others I know as well. Borla with full exhaust did not sound good to me at all, waaaaay too much rasp.

I switched over to LM (before LM2) and slapped a Borla XR1 bullet in (Borla-Mouth) and never looked back. Plus my Borla-Mouth weighs less than the Borla cat-back.
