Default 2004 gto vs ford lightning

So i got a very good offer on my Trans am and im seriously thinking about taking it and was looking at these 2 cars. First is a 2004 gto m6 58,000 miles blue with black interior. Very nice car i went and seen it today drives very good its a 2 owner car with a clean carfax. Its bone stock which is fine with me the price is $12,500.

The second truck i looked at was a 2001 ford lightning with 61,000 miles its black and has a k&n intake. I havent driven it yet i plan to tomorrow. I have driven lightnings before and really liked them. The price is $13,000. Im trying to stay below the $13,000 mark. Ive seen some nice f bodys but i want somthing different if i get a new car ive had 3 trans ams so far. So i just wanted to hear some opions on what you guys would do. Oh yea the guy offered me $17000 for my car i bought it for $15500 and i owe $11,000. Thanks

I would rather have your WS6 than either of those other cars. 17k is a pretty good offer though!

First I must say I'm personally not a lightning fan. Big clunky trucks are not meant to go fast IMO.

But some food for thought, that GTO is going to get way better gas mileage then the Lightning. Might not be a big deal but some day gas will go back to $4/gal and I believe you have to run premium in the Lightning. High gas prices would also hurt the resell value of the Lightning.

I'm with zracer, I'd take the TA over the GTO and Lightning any day. I think in the long run it will be more valuable too.

GL with what ever ya do.

Unless it's somebody you know very well, don't get too excited until you get the cash. I used to want a Lightning but I've realized that if I want a fast truck, it's gonna be an lsx s10 or a diesel. I'd keep searching and at least find an 05 GTO if possible unless it's just going to be a DD. Out of those two, I'd take the GTO over the Lightning.

Man, either of those cars are gonna be weak sauce compared to your car. You're gonna miss the WS6. Either stick with the car you have or find something better like a Termi Cobra or Vette. Just my opinion.

Well im just looking for a comfartable daily driver with a little muscle. Ive been saving money for the past year or so for a c6 z06 and im hoping to get one in 2 to 3 years from now. I love my car but after driving the gto its so nice inside and the ride is far better then my trans am. I am leaning towards the gto but i am going to check out the lightning. I also thought the gto was a very good price after i put a little money down my payment should be in the $230 range which is much better then what i paying for the t/a. I would rather have a ls2 gto but the cheapest one ive seen around me is $18,000 a little more then i wanted to pay.

17k is an amazing offer. I would take that while its available and decide on a car after the fact.

If you are looking to buy a DD get the GTO, my 04 was the best DD I ever had....that being said, I sold it to buy the 00 WS6 I have now. I missed having a f-body. I have always wanted a Lightning, but never bought one. Not sure it's the best DD....not the best MPG, only fits two people comfortably and they are not that good in the snow. My GTO was not bad in the snow with snow tires.

Until $$$ in hand I wouldn't be looking at anything. Someone offering and someone paying can be quite different.

Research the lightning in some lightning forums. I can't remember which years were troublesome but I know a lot of them were busting pistons.....

The only lightning I ever raced I beat badly so if you are tired of your car I think you will get bored with a lightning quickly.....

Well i went to see the lightning today it is a very nice truck handles well (for a truck) and is reasonably comfortable. I do like the whine of the blower and its torquey but i cant get past the interior of the gto plus i could watch the gas gauge go down on the lightning lol. So we will see if i sell my car im still thinking bout it but if i do i will most likely be driveing a blue gto m6. Thanks for all the input its always nice to here what other peolpe would do in a certain sitution.

I love blower whine. You actually have an easy option of that with the GTO. Get a maggie and call it a day.

goat - Helluvea lot more comfortable DD, m6 better mpgs, still fast when you wana have fun.

Lightening - terrible mpgs, "okay" for a truck in snow, blower whine.

my vote is for the goat, if you do get 17k for the T/A, get an ls2 goat.

GTO for a DD. The Lightning will just suck so much gas down. I would rather have your car than either one though.
