Default Semi-budget motor

I'm pulling out my LS1 within the next year or so but I want to start building the next motor in the process but I'm kinda stuck on what motor to get. My goals are:
1) Has to be very drivable. I take my grandma to get her hair cut on wednesdays...
So what my plan's are is to go iron, build on a tubular K, swap K's. I wanted to go high compression, mild cam, good heads, and run nitrous. I'm really after as much torque N/A as possible and juice on top of that if so needed. I know I can get the LQ9/4 pretty cheap and they are decently strong. I just want to know what block is best for not spending that much money if the LQ9/4 is the wrong direction. I plan to replace most, if not all, of the internals. My main concern is though, I live on the water (ignore my location, I live in south TX) and it's not like I'm gonna build the thing in one day. Without having sleeved cylinders (correct me if I'm wrong) I'm concerned the iron will begin oxidizing are basically become rusted and unusable in a few weeks/months. That's about it... Ask questions if you have any, advice is greatly appreciated

Kyle

im in ure boat 100% man im trying to build a torque monster on a budget. i thought of a 408 lq9 and everything along those lines. i found i can build the same power and tq out of my ls1 block. im doing a forged 346 rebuild ported ls6 heads, ms3 cam, full suspension, full bolt ons, and a 100 shot half the price of building a new motor and probabky the same if not more of what i wanted to do w the lq. just my 2 cents tho

But the MS3 is too aggressive for my build. I know, I'm picky haha. I haven't ditched the idea of going aluminum. Not at all. In fact, I prefer it. But for simplicity and price, I though iron was better and could be done stronger for cheaper. I think a punched and/or stroked LS6 is right up my alley for what I am looking for. Less displacement means gas mileage will come a bit more naturally, but I don't want to sacrifice ANY low end. It is all a matter of price. And, the area I'm in makes getting an LQ painless. Haha I'm sure I didn't make this any easier!

Keep in mind the larger motor you have, the more tame the cam will seem (compared to a smaller motor) auto or manual? That will have a big effect on drivability as well.

It is an A4. I will be choosing a stall in the 3200-3600 range. Closer to 3600... May run up to 3.55s, MAYBE 3.73, but nothing higher.

I'm right down the street from Circle D and they are building the trans too and offer an awesome warranty I do love FTI, but I can't argue with not paying shipping and having parts covered.
